Demarcus Cousins and his meds hurting draft stock?

Featured Replies

This is kind of off subject, but applies to Cuz and his draft status. I heard Will Perdue on WKRD this morning, he was talking UK. He said that the rumors are true about NBA teams wanting Cal. Didn't say Cal was leaving, but he said the Nets were interested.

He went on to say that the big talk at the NBA All-Star weekend was the fact that UK had four kids that would get drafted. He said an agent told him that Bledsoe will enter, along with the other three, for sure. He said the looming potential of a lock out was a big factor.

As for Cuz, everyone knows he's crazy. Not sure how that's news. That's part of what makes him good IMO. I agree on the lack of athleticism, mainly his jumping ability. But I think he makes up for that with his savvy and hands. I'm still not sold he'll be a star in the NBA, I've seen a lot of big guys that I thought would star in the pros disappear. You really don't know until you get there I guess.

This is a great post. There are two points that I really agree with.

First, the looming lock out. I expect all four to leave early and honestly can't blame them.

Second, the "That's part of what makes him good" talking about Boogie. His intensity sometimes gets a little carried away but is a huge part of what makes him great.

I think he's right, and Cousins needs to spend at least 2 more years in college. :dancingpa:dancingpa
3 years to be sure he is ready.:D

Not exactly the same, but I view him similarly to Kevin Love. Not great athletes, but extremely gifted in other areas. Boogie is a 15' jumper away from being really darn good, which is what the NBA people will see. It is difficult to find a good big man in the NBA.

Pretty similar. Kevin Love with an attitutude. Both of them get "it". Love was a tremendous outlet passer, I know that sounds silly. But that's what makes these guys (Cuz, Love) great. They just know how to hoop.

I was just thinking how much I miss Love's outlet passes, or his ability to flick his wrist full court and nail shots. I hate the one-and-done rule, but I am also blessed I got to watch talents like Love perform at the collegiate level for a season.

I don't see any point in why that would be published. It really is not the public's business regarding his mental health. I salute him, if he has recognized an issue and is doing something to take care of it.

I agree.

I spent a long time last night talking to a NBA scout and nothing like this was ever mentioned. He did have concerns about his athleticism and attitude issues, but said he would certainly be taken in the top 5. He was actually much more critical of Patterson and said he could see him sliding to the middle to back of the 1st round...

Do you think Bledsoe would even get drafted(as someone posted earlier in this thread) if he comes out? He a 6' tall off guard at this point, who is very inconsistent both shooting the ball and playing defense.

Bledsoe has a lot of untapped potential. I'd expect him probably mid to late first.

Mid to late first round as long as he performed well during the pre draft workouts and interviews. The guy I was talking to didn't like him, but said one of the other guys in his organization loved him. That's been the common theme in the scouts I've talked to this season...

I could do your job :D

What position do they project him to play? I'm no expert, but I can't see Blesoe making an NBA team until he becomes a much better lead guard.

I have looked at a few mock drafts lately and Bledsoe has not shown up on any that I have seen in either round.

That was this scout's concern on Bledsoe. When he has been the point UK tends to struggle, and he really needs at least another year in college to show he can be an effective lead guard. The ones that have liked him a lot were all about his athletic ability and potential...

Bledsoe IMO would be like getting a better Ty Lawson. He has Lawson's speed, with a much stronger body, better ability to get to the basket, and slightly better athleticism. NBA teams would draft him just on that, and with the thought he is forced into a role this season he is not used to.

As for the second, Mock drafts can be very good, but they can also be very bad. A lot of times they are unknowingly of the international players, or other college kids that scouts and organizations may be raving about. Mock Drafts are mainly built off what makes the most sense. Lot of times, NBA teams do not do what makes the most sense at the moment. I would pay much more attention to the scouts comments GT and others mentioned, than I would mock draft sites.

To go along with some of this. Cal flew out to take a look a Cory Joseph a couple days ago in Vegas. Joseph plays at the newly developed high school power house Findlay Prep. in Henderson NV (fifth year home of DeAndre Liggins) and is a 5 star PG. Many seem to think Calipari done this to pressure Knight into a decision, others seem to think it may because the feeling Bledsoe is leaving is becoming more realistic. Joseph had already stated he had a final list (of course this list didn't have UK on it) but no one really knows if Calipari's late entry will have anything to do with the outcome. Joseph is a good outside shooter and would work well at the guard position Bledsoe is playing this year in Cals offense. IMO, I don't think Jospeh ends up at Kentucky, but I do think the reason Cal's getting on him all of a sudden is because he may not be so sure anymore about one or more of Bledsoe, Knight, Selby, or Lamb.

Why would they draft Bledsoe that high and not draft someone like Jodie Meeks, who was a much better player, until the second round. Maybe the same reason the Pistons drafted Darko instead of Melo or Wade. Potential?:idunno:
