So Clyde, in the third largest population base in the Commonwealth (Ninth Region) if the Ninth doesn't play at the BOKC only Marion, Powell and Grayson County are smaller than Conner with Marion County being the smallest overall.

 

So tell me again why are you so against playing in a big arena?

 

I don't see how these numbers are accurate. To me Holmes seems to be the largest of the three.

I will be at the regional draws on Sunday morning. The girls is at 9 a.m. and the boys is at 9:30 a.m.

 

Just before the event takes place, I will start a thread in the respective gender's basketball forum so I can live update the draw as it happens.

 

I am mainly going there so I can get rosters and pronunciations beforehand.

 

I will also pass along any other pertinent information the I hear.

And that is why I showed this possible draw.

I think that there is an added benefit to playing the regional tourney at BOK. It allows the 9th region teams the opportunity to play in an arena enviornment which will only help them when they go to Rupp Arena. All of the players and coaches I talked with are thrilled that the regional tourney is played there.

 

I guess if your from Ryle,Holmes or Conner you would like to hold it at your home court. The BOK is a fantastic place for the tournament. Everyone can get in to see BOTH games with no parking problems. Ask the kids where they would rather play. It's what makes it fun for the kids.

Excellent parking, cushioned seats, chair backs, not having to be in line for an hour before the game to get a seat, college size floor and not having to play the region on Holmes' home floor every 3rd year. Put me down as a vote for the BOK arena into perpetuity.

BTW I am very much looking forward to seeing the CovCath Crazies do their thing in the BOKC.

What the BOKC missed last year was the Crazies being there and doing the wave, the s.....l.......o......w motion wave, the fast forward wave and the reverse wave!

 

Hopefully, like the senior classes have done before, this senior class comes up with their own new cheer! 2004 the Roller Coaster, The Shoe, 2006 The Fight, 2007 the Hulk!

Given the outcome of 3 of the 4 games and the other to be decided tonight it looks like it will make for an interesting regional draw tomorrow morning. Dixie, Boone Co., CovCath and one of the Newport teams in the losers side. Wow, I can't see any favorable draw for the defending 9th region champs. It should make for an exciting tournament the next two weeks in Highland Heights. Who ever comes out unscathed will really have to earn it. Hope this attracts some large crowds as everyone seems to have a chance to make it to the championship game. I am curious to see how the bigger floor plays into each teams play. I think uptempo could be the theme for some and slowdown for a lot.

St. Henry's fans could be revived as well. Maybe the thought of this will bring out all the fan bases and make for some large crowds. Should be an exciting tournament atmosphere.

I agree. The BOKC amenities are fantastic but the atmosphere isn't the same.

 

I agree. Less students attend the games because if your kid can't drive, NKU is too far for parents to drop their kids off and then go pick them up. I think only the final game should be played there, the others should be played at the schools.

My gosh where do you live in NKy that NKU is too far to drive to?

 

Even if your kid attends Ryle, it's not that far to drive! I live in Oakbrook and I can make it to the BOKC in 20 minutes or less easy! BTW from my home to the BOKC is only 16.7 miles!

 

My goodness, some districts in Kentucky must travel over a 100 miles to play in their Regional games!

Holmes' student section is not the strongest but they have a large fan base that follows them around the region. Holmes fans made up about 35-40% of the crowd last night @ Cov. Cath. I have to admit that I am going to miss Highlands not being in the tourney. Will Hatton make an impact at the Region as an 8th grader? [Can we talk him in to kicking off his formal high school experience by matriculating in Park Hills next August? ] Can Boone County pull it together, get their player personnel issues buttoned down and perform to their potential? Will Newport peform to the standard set by Coach Arnzen when he won 5 9th region titles? It will be fun. :popcorn:

Agreed. Last year Holmes was the prohibitive favorite but they survived by the narrowest of margins. This year, Holmes is still the favorite, but certainly not huge favorite. I expect some thrilling games. The way St. Henry played last night, they cannot be overlooked. Here is how I rank the teams in order of most likely to win to least likely to win at this point:

1)Holmes

2)Ryle

3)NCC

4)Newport

5)Boone

6)St. Henry

7)CovCath

8)Dixie

 

Just think Boone has morale issues at this point and I cannot pick them as #2 now.
