So Clyde.......... Rupp Arena too big?????

Coop, I am with you! Easy parking, great seats, college floor and the 9th is one for one when playing at the BOKC compared to 1 for ?? playing on the HS floors!

 

So Clyde, you enjoy having to leave after the first game, sitting on a hard bench, and wondering where you are going to park at some of the venues, so you can sit shoulder to shoulder in a packed and sweaty gym?

 

The kids (meaning the players) enjoy playing at the BOKC, end of discussion! :walk:

 

 

The kids probably do like the facility, the lockers, the big-time feel but I guarantee you they do not like the fact that it seems empty.

 

I'm an "atmosphere" guy. I don't care about parking. I don't care about seats. I don't care about fancy scoreboards.

 

As I said, give me the jammed shoulder-to-shoulder seating and having to get there early and the student sections right on top of the players. Its how high school basketball was meant to be played.

 

No shock that the Ryle guy likes the "country club" atmosphere.

Its fine for the Sweet 16.

 

Last year 7500 of the 9400 seats were empty for most games at BOKC in the first round. It was like being in church.

At least you have bodies in the seats at Rupp. Give me the old setup any day of the week. BOKC is a much different atmosphere and they will play the championship on a Sunday afternoon?? Give me Conner/Ryle/Holmes on a Saturday night with the old bleachers, parking anywhere you can, and standing room only with the doors locked if you are late. That's what it's all about. The BOKC will appear empty for the 9th region tournament. To each it's own. Hopefully they will bring it back to the high school gyms soon. The 10th figured it out. :walk:

I don't like it being at the BOKC either. If it was packed every night, I would have no problem, but even last year having 2 regional finals in one night couldnt pack the place. Hopefully the 9th comes to its senses and goes back to the 3 school rotation.

Let me renew my displeasure with having the region at the BOKC. Give me a packed house at Ryle/Conner/Holmes with fans right on top of the action and the bands blaring and you've got KY high school tourney ball.

 

BOKC is country club ball with zero atmosphere.

I think that there is an added benefit to playing the regional tourney at BOK. It allows the 9th region teams the opportunity to play in an arena enviornment which will only help them when they go to Rupp Arena. All of the players and coaches I talked with are thrilled that the regional tourney is played there.

The 10th is lucky enough to have two huge HS venues while the Ninth doesn't. Sorry Holmes, Conner, and Ryle aren't anywhere as near as nice, as The Fieldhouse and or Montgomery County Arenas are!

Think about the Villa girls and their players chances of playing in a huge arena like the BOKC, or the majority of the players who will never get to play in Rupp!

I was not impressed with the Fieldhouse, if you sit in the upper section it is hard to see a scoreboard because the side rims are in the way.

Another gym they could add is Cooper. Brand new, and very nice! All i'm sayin' is that the intensity is no where to be found in the BOKC, but it's alive and well in the high school gyms. A full house is always better than a sparse house, just my two cents.

I was going to say the same about adding Cooper's gym. I'm not positive but I believe I was told it holds the same, or nearly the same, as Ryle and Conner. I would love to have a facility somewhere in between the size of our High School gyms and the BOKC. I love a packed gym but 3000 may be too small.

I was just going through the regional qualified teams as it pertains to Boone. So far, going into tonights game with the Raiders, Boone hasn't fared to well against the 'other' 7 teams in the regional tournament....

Holmes is 7-1, with the lone loss to Ryle. But they play Cov Cath tonight in Park Hills
