I would bump Boone up to 4 and move Dixie down to 8. Dixie really isn't that good (Hatton is a good player, but with Trammel out, Dixie is not a good team)

Let me renew my displeasure with having the region at the BOKC. Give me a packed house at Ryle/Conner/Holmes with fans right on top of the action and the bands blaring and you've got KY high school tourney ball.

 

BOKC is country club ball with zero atmosphere.

I think that there is an added benefit to playing the regional tourney at BOK. It allows the 9th region teams the opportunity to play in an arena enviornment which will only help them when they go to Rupp Arena. All of the players and coaches I talked with are thrilled that the regional tourney is played there.

I have never bought into the "arena" benefit, though.

 

Remember it is about the kids (meaning the players) and they love playing at the BOKC compared to the above three gyms!

I will second this. 2 bucks to park, no cameras, ushers whinning about feet on the seats. Who needs it. I'm heading over to watch the 8th in a real High School gym.

I would like to see more fans at the game as well for a better game atmosphere but I like the big arena experience before the winner heads to state and anyone who wants to go knows they will be able to get in and get a comfortable good seat. However, more importantly, (and I don't believe I saw this in any of the posts above) I like the fairness of it that all of the regional games are decided on a neutral court rather than the potential for some team to have the home court advantage (which would inure as an additional advantage to a handful of larger schools that already have some numbers advantage in the single class system). Do the other 10th region teams really prefer to have to beat Mason County on its home court every two or three years? (perhaps some think it is okay because of the venue but I expect others see it as an unfair advantage for a team frequently so good it doesn't need any additional help.) I believe I have seen on other threads in the past how many regionals in the state are played on neutral arena courts (typically regional universities like Murray, Morehead, NKU, etc.) and how many are played on high school courts. perhaps someone could post that again.

I like the old packed HS gyms and the atmosphere but I also like the fact that no team gets a true advantage and the kids get to play on the BOKA floor. They have to get used to the depth perception of shooting in a big arena if they want to go to Rupp and be successfull.

Clyde, tonight at CovCath while I enjoyed the noise and such, the floor was starting to sweat, along with the ball becoming wet. A couple of times you could just see the players look at their hands and I know Connelly came over at least two to three times asking for a towel to dry his hands off.

 

Yes CovCath is a rather old gym but after sitting in Ryle, Holmes and Conner gyms, it happens in them also.

So Clyde, in the third largest population base in the Commonwealth (Ninth Region) if the Ninth doesn't play at the BOKC only Marion, Powell and Grayson County are smaller than Conner with Marion County being the smallest overall.

 

So tell me again why are you so against playing in a big arena?
