Cincinnati Enquirer had an article about high schools adding day care services for students who are also parents.

Well, lend us your perspective. It should help the conversation/debate.

Haven't read the article yet, so maybe this is explained in it.

 

As far as funding is concerned, if I was the parent of a kid (who didn't need the day care services) I'd be somewhat concerned that my tax dollar isn't being spent on "education". And, you certainly don't want to come off as condoning uprotected sex either.

 

On the flip side, however, is the bigger picture. If you can get kids who might not normally graduate, to graduate, then perhaps they might be better suited for pursuing either a higher education or at least a better paying job...and thus, not be a "drain on society" by resorting to welfare, food stamps, etc.

I just feel like for some of these children it makes making that mistake that much easier. No doubt many will still slip up anyhow, but I just feel like for some others when these children don't have to worry about not being able to get a diploma then that risk doesn't seem as severe. Plus, there are some middle schools now that have implemented the day care now!!! Are you kidding me? With that being said, think back of how you thought when you were in the 7/8th grades. Not exactly in reality, so how cool would that "Parent" look dropping a kid off at daycare. All you wanted to do at that age is look grown up. That makes takes the pressure against your purity to another level IMO.

I have trouble believing that a 16 yr old girl is going to make the decision to have premarital sex based on the fact that there is a daycare available for her. I also don't believe that most 16 yr old girls go into sex thinking that they are going to become pregnant.

I don't believe they do it thinking they are going to become a parent either. Kids these days are going to have sex more often than not period. We have to give them incentive to have protected sex. I just feel daycare makes the unprotected risk that much easier.

Teenagers are going to make poor decisions period. If you dont have the daycare services then its just more kids who will drop out and have a greater chance of milking the taxpayers on welfare. If you give them incentive and opportunity to become a productive citizen even after a mistake then you are doing something positive.

 

Dont give me the argument about a waste of taxpayer's money because there is so much waste of money going on right now with the Govt that this actually would be something worthwhile.

:lol: Unfortunately I have to agree with ya. At the end of the day I write my school papers and vote that it is a bad idea, but I can always see and argument on the other side. All in all I'm confused I guess... which basically explains my everyday life.:popcorn:

If it helps a student graduate from high school that normally wouldn't, I'm all for it.

Teenagers are going to make poor decisions period. If you dont have the daycare services then its just more kids who will drop out and have a greater chance of milking the taxpayers on welfare. If you give them incentive and opportunity to become a productive citizen even after a mistake then you are doing something positive.

I agree!

 

Plus, if they enroll their kids in off-site daycare they will qualify for a subsidy that will be taxpayer supported. This way they are encouraged to stay in school become better educated and graduate. Along the way they will hopefully become better parents from this type of arrangement and end the cycle of teenage pregnancy that typically occurs with teenage mothers.
