My concern is that a girl who has no support system likely will struggle away from school with regards to childcare as well. My guess is that she'd likely dropout regardless of the Daycare opportunity without any support from home or an outside source.

 

All I can tell you without violating some confidentiality of people that you don't know, is that you would be surprised at the number of girls who stay and graduate BECAUSE they had childcare, rather than drop out because that opportunity isn't there.

Are there not avenues where teenage mothers can still attain their GED without offering daycares in the school systems? Seems the money could just as easily spent on those particular programs. Personally, I'm not for it, especially if there are other options for these teenagers to finish. We have devolved into a place where everything is acceptable and there are no longer standards anywhere. I'm quite sure that mine is not the popular concensus.

 

 

But while she is attending the GED classes the kids will most likely go to daycare. If she is a high school drop out her daycare costs will be subsidized because she most likely will qualify for the aid.

I think it comes down to this:

 

Do we want to INCREASE the likelihood that a girl will have to choose to drop out of school? What does that do for her, for her baby, for here child's children, for us as a society?

Spindoc, I don't know if you have a daughter...but if you do (or did), what would you want for her if she were faced with the dilemma of going to school or taking care of her baby?
