What type of defense did the Camels play? Who guarded Pittman? Hard to believe he only had 6 points.

 

Camels played a 2-3 zone and offensively played a very deliberate style. I don't think they had too many offensive possession under 30 seconds. It certainly payed off because Holmes perimeter defense was horrible. They were giving CC 8-10 feet to prevent them from penetrating and CC made them pay with several timely 3's.

 

As far as the defense on Pittman, any time he'd post up down low, they'd put someone behind him and then have someone else come over and help deny the ball. Eventually, he ended up roaming outside and started settling for jumpers. CC had a game plan to stop him and executed it well.

Campbell Co started the game out 1-0 before the game even started. A technical foul was called on sophomore Hoskins for dunking under the 15 minute mark.

 

Not sure how he could have dunked though considering Holmes starts their shell drill around the 15:30 mark.

Was it just me or did Brady Jolly also touch the rim and seemingly miss a dunk when they went through their "tip line" before heading in to the locker room? There were no refs on the floor at the time, which seemed odd to me.

BTW, nobody has mentioned it yet but Nate McGovney is a stud for the Camels. I was very impressed with his game. Hands down the best freshman in nky and he'll end up being one of the best in the state his senior year.

He was very aggressive when he was in there and wasn't intimidated by Holmes at all.

McGovney has been getting a lot more minutes the last month or so. I think Coach Code has been bringing him along at a certain pace to allow him to get comfortable with this senior-laden team.

Definetly. He played with McClendon of Holmes for Kentucky Elite over the summer.

 

I really like the swagger the kid plays with. He wasn't intimidated at all on offense or defense and you'd never know he was a freshman unless someone told you so. He had a shot blocked by Pittman first time he drove down low, but continued to attack.

 

He is also physically mature for his age. He looks like he'd be a solid linebacker or strong safety on defense.

There is a world of difference in a February Saturday night game and a March tournament game. Not to take anything away from Campbell Co. but this was probably like a state championship game to them. Every game that Holmes has played this year against so called lesser opponents was probably viewed as such. Do you think there was a chance that the Holmes players slept in this morning and then laid around all day waiting to go to the school before the bus ride to the game? They are high school kids and they probably felt like they had nothing to prove tonight. Someone else said they acted like they didn't want to be there. How many fans do you think Holmes drew to Campbell Co. in bad weather? Make this a tournament game where they are in under strict coaches rules as to pregame preparation and you probably have a totally different scenario.

 

Does is really matter? If they are going to get all the hype they do they should atleast put on some better showings. A state champion team doesnt let an average team even compete with them.

I do believe they are still 17 and 18 year old kids, aren't they? Have you noticed the big kid on Kentucky not playing hard all the time?
