$7 Gasoline

Featured Replies

How long will it be before we see gas hit $6 to $7 per gallon? Its down now because of the economy. Once we get going again isn't it logical that gas prices will explode?

Hopefully it will be quite some time before we see $7 a gallon. I don't see it in the near future.

Not really. The economy was in really good condition in the 90's and it wasn't even $1 then, I don't see why it would be $7 anytime in the next 10 years either.

As long as our dependency on oil remains strong, the prices will continue to go up. OPEC will make sure they keep supply down so the price remains high. Biggest scam on the globe.

Well I am not sure it can in present conditions. I mean the last time it was a Republican conspiracy with the oil companies to soak the common man. With the Democrats in power, I am sure that can't happen now.:D:D

Gas will only go as high as Americans let it.

You're making assumptions that are no longer true unless you believe supply hasn't changed.

OPEC may not have a choice on keeping supply low. Its already low and getting lower.

But then why does the price keep raising?

Man, you shook me up, our SUV gets 15 MPG in town and has to have the highest octane.

Gas prices going up only hurts the economy!!!

Don't see this happening to that extent. Maybe slightly over $3, but not $ 6 or 7.

The economy is why its not there now.

We now say "no way $6" when it wasn't very long ago we said "no way $3."

We have limited and shrinking supply.

We have continued increases in demand especially from countries that used to be mainly exporting.

Other sources of energy come with a very high cost.

Why shouldn't we expect gas prices to skyrocket?

Literally people will not be able to afford to drive if it gets that high.

Gas will only go as high as Americans let it.

Your theory of we control demand is correct, but is it really possible? Even with demand being at all time lows in the past year, OPEC can still manipulate production to counter it. We really have very little to do with it when were importing 70% of our oil. We are 10-15 years away from making any type of noticable change on the roads. If we found a safe way to use nuclear power we could chop our imports down dramatically.

2008 was the year OPEC and the oil interest really wanted to test the market to see what they could get. At about $150 oil, $4.35 gas they found out that was enough to make the economy nose dive.

Throughout all of this OPEC has learned that about $100 dollar oil and $3 dollar gas is when we starting pulling back a little. I do not see anyway we can get above $4.50 gas without a depression, since we are so oil reliant.

OPEC may not have a choice on keeping supply low. Its already low and getting lower.

Their supply is low, or the supply their sending us?
