February 14, 201016 yr Nuclear is going to be a tough sell. Secondly, and I can't stress this enough, you have to ask "at what cost" when you read/hear that anyone says there is enough oil. Cheap is oil is the key. Is there enough cheap oil? Doubtful. I am beginning to believe there is nothing to make you happy but expensive energy. We do have the reserves to make us less dependent on foreign oil, at a cost that is no more than what we have seen in the last year, And there is a movement afoot to push for nuclear plants to be built.

Challenges with nuclear: Takes a long time to get them going (avg 17 years to put in place) Very expensive to build and insure not the most reliable (often offline) generates lots of toxic waste

Do you think there is enough cheap supply considering: Countries that used to major exporters are now seeing huge increases in demand from their own countrymen Countries like China and India are now major consumers unlike the past No new major sources of cheap oil have come online in quite a while Depletion rates are increasing worldwide If you think there is enough supply you either know of hidden supplies or you do not believe any of the above. I doubt you know of hidden supplies so it must be that you don't believe the above. Care to discuss why you do not believe it? Lots of "ifs" in your nuclear argument. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm saying its irrelevant to THIS discussion since my contention is that while it sounds good its not going to happen for quite a while. That leaves us back at the original question: $7?
February 15, 201016 yr Author There is oil out there. We have 80 billion barrels just ourselves in reserve. . I have not seen the 80B quoted. I did come across something from 2008 from the US Energy Information Administration which said the US has 21B of proved reserves.
February 16, 201016 yr $7 a gallon, no I do not think we will see that. If we drill for our own oil and use nuclear power I believe the price will remain below $4 a gallon. I recall about 10 years ago gas actually dropped into the $.90 range for the summer, but then it started up. The lame enivro-wackos have kept us from drilling for our own oil and OPEC has taken advantage of that situation. We drill for our own oil and the price will remain the same or come down. The 80 billion barrels of oil is from research, that unforunately, I had on my school computer, but lost since my retirement.
