I wouldn't count out Turkeyfoot for the 8th grade final. They beat Twenhofel on Tuesday night in OT and play them again tonight.

 

The coach still struggles with putting the right players on the court, but the boys seem to be able to work through it and pull out wins in spite of the coach.

Sorry I didn't get back on to post the location. The game was at Twenhofel last night. Turkeyfoot won by 7 or 8.

 

Next week should be interesting.

Gray beat Ockerman in 6th grade action and Ockerman defeated Gray with ease in 7th grade.

I notice they have only lost one game. Very impressive. Who beat them?

HMS 7th goes to 19-5 with a victory over the Camels tonight.

 

HMS jumped out to an early 9-2 lead only to have the Camels come back and take the lead 21- 18 at the half. Very early in the second half HMS regained the lead after Justin Weyer scored two quick buckets. He had a nice drive thru the lane followed by a three pointer. Beau Hoge took over from there. He hit 5 straight three's and the Bird's opened up a big lead.

 

The last three minutes of the game lasted an eternity. HMS emptied their bench up 20. CCMS coach stuck with his first unit, decided to stay aggressive, fouled and pressed to the end. Two technical fouls and about 20 free throws (10 each team) shot in the last two minutes. Final score was Birds 62 - Camels 47.

Wow, 62 points in a 24 minute game. :scared: I am very impressed with the 19-5 record this year under Kevin Nieporte and mainly because this team seems to be all guards. You can confirm Stinky but I dont think they have one player over what 5'9? Nice to see Weyer playing aggressively and Hoge knocking down threes. With Urlage and Whitford complimenting those two they seem to really have nice talent.

They seem to put up at least 50 points every game. They shoot the ball much better than the average middle school team. Whitford is the tallest player seeing significant minutes, he goes about 5'8". The 8 boys in the rotation range from 5'5" - 5'8". It will be their downfall in the tourney. The Birds battle on the boards, but can't handle the teams with talented big men. HMS would have to get by the twin towers of Holmes, then maybe the IHM team with C. Kunstick. Ockerman will be there waiting for whichever team survives from the District #2 vs. #4 semifinal.

This allows the Birds to wrap up the number 1 seed going into the district tournaments which start next week at Newport. Birds trailed by 4 with a little under 3 minutes to go in the game and Holmes decided they were going to try and hold the ball and make the Birds come out of the zone. A Birds steal and bucket brought the lead down to 2 and then Jared Dougherty knocked down a contested 3 from just right of the key to put the Birds up 1. He then scored on a bust out and Mark Walkenhorst iced it with 1 of 2 free throws on an intentional foul. Birds have now won 11 of their last 12.

It appears that the Highlands 6th, 7th and 8th grade teams are all playing exceptionally well. I believe all 3 teams have atleast 16 wins on the season. You throw in the year the Freshman had at 14-6 overall and that is 62 wins+ for that group.

Today's snow is going to play havoc on the tournament.

 

And whomever decided it was good planning to have the last game time for Wednesday on a school night to START at 8:30 made a very poor decision.

4 games in one night, first game starts at 4:45pm I think. How else would you like them to do it?
