This tournament is no different than the numerous other tournaments held throughout the year in KY. It simply chooses to invite only schools that qualify as "A" schools.

 

If you have a problem with this one, why not all the other tournaments that go on?

As long as the All-A is a functional tournament, there will be no push to classify basketball.

Then again, maybe I am the only one who cares that an Owsley County has to compete against a University Heights....

I dont mind an Owsley County competing against a University Heights. What would bother me is an Owsley County having to compete with a Henderson County or a Lexington Lafayette.

I wish the All A organizers would have found a different name for it way back when, because a large group of folks have never been able to look past the name and the perceived association with football classes, and instead view it as just an invitational tournament. A really big invitational tourney, but an invitational nonetheless.

If the numbers listed in this thread are correct, I think Owsley is about 4X bigger than UHA. That's one heck of an advantage for Owsley. :sssh:

I know they don't care, but to say it isn't affiliated is somewhat true and somewhat not.

 

Are the teams that participate KHSAA teams? Yes

Are the coaches KHSAA coaches? Yes

If a kid gets hurt, does it go on the KHSAA insurance? Yes

Does the KHSAA recognize the title? No

Do other teams in those regions have to schedule around that tournament and adjust schedules as necessary? Yes

The issue isn't what the KHSAA does or doesn't do, it is about a mythical title. These schools put banners up along with the standard regional or district titles so whether the KHSAA does or does not recognize it isn't the issue.

 

If there is a need for an all A there should be a class system. Not sure why the powers that be won't look at a class system, but it is what it is.

 

Personally I like the one class, but if the all A is to continue we should investigate making it legitimate.

 

Do you think University Heights looks at the all A tltles they have won different than the regular title? Of course, but they are still very proud of the all A titles.

 

I am not a believer in phantom titles which this is. Not demeaning the tournament, the teams or anything about it, but it should be a KHSAA thing or be eliminated.

Let's see ... the small schools invest the time and effort to conduct their own mini-state tournament, and you think they should scrap it just because it isn't played under the KHSAA banner?

 

Yeah, right ... present that to the All A Classic schools, and see how long it takes them to tell you that dog doesn't hunt.

Boys 9-12, which again is the talent pool available.

The only time Owsley County and University Heights has played was in the 1990 All A championship game at Memorial.
