Did the Scott Run and Jump cause GRC to turn the ball over? Earlier you mentioned their spacing against the press and getting someone to the middle of the floor, so I assumed the Scott D caused them problems.

 

The run-and-jump was the difference in the game IMO. Every time Scott County had a run if was off this. And, then in the last couple of minutes, they forced Stenzel into a couple of bad turnovers with it.

 

This was a heck of a game and I expect both teams to go a long way, but both teams could use an upgrade at point guard, especially Clark County. Manning for Scott County is just learning the position and will only get better, but I thought he got too deep on several occasions with nowhere to go. Clark County, on other hand, would be much better served if Stenzel could play off the ball a little more. He took a lot of questionable shots when he was at the point. If Clark County had someone who could simply get them in an offense more often, they would improve immensely. But, even still, I expect to see them against Shelby Valley on Saturday morning in Rupp. And, I understand that is very premature because we all know a lot can happen in high school basketball in KY and that's what makes it so great.

It seems like GRC needs to mentally get over the hump. To win the close games against the best competition, IMO two things a team needs to get over the hump. One, you need a go to guy who the team believes in to take the final shot. It doesn't mean he has to always take the final shot, but you need that guy who the other team is going to scheme to stop who will make the shot or get the assist if the defense doesn't execute. Two, defensive stops win the big games at crunch time. Focus on being tough on the defensive end, get stops/turnovers and the big wins will start to happen.

This is a good young team. To play the best in the state and lose by 3 is a statement. I think expectations are high for these young men but we need to remember these are mostly underclassmen...JUNIORS! They will be a tough out for anyone in the state this year and whoa nelly you can stand by next year! They improve every game and to hold a talented team like Scott county to 67 points is good defense.So take your shot now because the best is yet to come!

I agree that they are all juniors, but few if any of them are "true juniors."

I realize that the rest of the state does this as well, and they will be a tough team next year as they are now, but to say they are "young" is a joke. They are just as old and as experienced as any other team in the state.

Who isn't a "true junior" besides Stenzel? :confused:

They are all "true" juniors in the sense that their school and the KHSAA recognize them as juniors. :ohbrother:

 

This is my opinion for all arguments of this nature, has nothing to do with GRC's specific situation.

I would not classify them as a young team.

Clark County is not a young team. The only spot they are young at is at the point and that is due to inexperience.

I predicted that Scott Co would win 67-62...only two off of my prediction. Jackson with 27 doesn't surprise me. GRC has generally struggled some this year against the better guards around the state.

And that youth has nothing to do with anything considering the experience they have. I'm not buying that they're a "young team."

 

Stenzel has started varsity since his 8th grade year.

Zollo has started varsity since his freshman year.

Rogers started varsity as a sophomore.

I believe Purvis saw some varsity action as a freshman.

Daniels saw varsity action last year as a sophomore and even started when Rogers was injured.

 

This team may be full of juniors but they're a veteran team.
