What Am I Missing About the Pro Bowl?

Featured Replies

Every where I turn, I hear about how Matt Schaub is the starting quarterback for the AFC. People are flabbergasted...Matt Schaub?!!? The Pro Bowl is before the Super Bowl?!! WHAT??

Am I the only one who doesn't mind Matt Schaub getting the nod & the Pro Bowl prior to the Super Bowl?

Schaub had a great year. No, he's not Peyton Manning, but who is? The guy (Schaub) put up very good numbers. Maybe I'm partial because I had him on a fantasy team AND he shredded the Bengals (I didn't start him that week, FWIW.) Or maybe he was a top QB this year & should be rewarded for a great season.

He had the 7th best QB Rating in the NFL (98.6). Brees was 1st at 109.6. Only 5 were above 100, and Peyton was 99.9.

Schaub threw for 29 TD's, good for 6th in the NFL. He also led the league in passing yards (4,770). Granted, Peyton threw for 4,500 and the Colts laid down at the end of the season.

Regardless, Schaub's numbers are for real. I understand that he's not the "brand name" that others are, but he's a very, very good quarterback. I'm looking forward to him & Andre Johnson airing it out on Sunday.

There's a pretty good chance I'll tune into the Pro Bowl for a little bit on Sunday. It's still football season when you're awaiting the Super Bowl. I didn't watch the Pro Bowl in years past when it was after the Super Bowl.

And who else thinks that The Office episode following the Super Bowl last year was the best Office ever?

BOOM ROASTED

If the Pro Bowl rosters were weak when it was held AFTER the Super Bowl (and they were), they by definition have to be even more watered down when the two best teams in the league don't have anyone playing in it.

I find it extremely amusing that anybody would get worked up over who is and isn't represented at the Pro Bowl, given the fact that all of about 10 people will actually watch the game.

The Pro Bowl at the end of the football (a sport that doesn't lend itself very well to an "all-star" game) makes slightly less sense than NASCAR, whose marquee event is the first race of the season.

AWESOME! :laugh::laugh::laugh:

I'm stunned that enough people watch the game to warrant it to be televised.

I loved the Pro Bowl when I was young. It has become a joke. Honestly I think the NFL should send it back to Hawaii and reward the guys that actually deserve to be there. It's about them/their family enjoying a week in Hawaii together. They've earned the right for what they put their bodies through.

Get rid of the pro bowl and just do some silly skills competition. It would probably be better than the game.

I agree. With the money that is tied up there is a huge risk of getting guys hurt it seems like. Some of these guys haven't played in a month+. Some guys playing half speed some not. I'd hate to be a Dlineman trying to lay off the QB.

I say go the route of MLB and the winning conference in the Pro-bowl automatically wins the coin toss or has the Superbowl at the field of the conference champ.

That would be a logistical nightmare. The first part maybe so.

I could care less about Matt Schaub starting, but Vince Young and David Garrard as the backups is quite sad. To me being a Pro Bowler is a huge deal and can go a long way in defining a legacy. Do reserves like Young, Garrard, Ocho, Romo, etc. have an asterisk or anything similar by their name stating they were called out of the bullpen?

The AFC South has all of the QB's for the AFC but the best QB in the South isn't there

They have to do something about this.

Instead of complaining, we need to come up with some suggestions...
