Uh......I was surprised by this score.

I thought Avery was supposed to be back for this game. Does anyone know if he played? I think he will help Holmes with guard play but it will take a few games to get in a flow with the team.

BIG win for Ryle. Pinkston had a super night (15 pts.) and Stauffer chipped in 16 pts. 2 big free throws with 15 seconds left by Coleman forced Holmes to put up a 3, which they missed, and Ryle got a breakaway basket to end the game.

 

Holmes looked pretty bored to be honest. Didn't see much enthusiasm or intensity. There is no question they had more talent on the floor against Ryle (and any team in the 9th), but if they play that sloppy and uninspired they are very beatable.

 

They always looked bored to me, I think they would just like to get out and run instead of the half court set's. When they do this they look unstoppable,when they run the half court offense they look very beatable.

Holmes took a seven point loss last year around this time last year (February 10th) to Boone County and everyone said the sky is falling on the Bulldogs. I will still take Holmes come tournament time. But I agree, there are a lot of games that they look uninterested. There are other teams out there that do the same thing they are just not under the same microscope as Holmes.

Avery did play.

Great to hear the redhead (Pinkston) had such a good game. Great kid with great grades, balanced personality and a team player. You gotta root for a young man like him!

Congrats to the Raiders. It seems like this is the first time in forever Ryle beat someone they were not supposed to beat. Great job. Holmes is still the favorite. Upsets are nice.

Very good point. :thumb: And, in the 07-08 season Holmes took an ugly loss against Newport Catholic and went on to the championship game of the Sweet 16. And, in the 06-07 season Holmes lost to Cov. Cath. in the District Finals and went on to the Sweet 16 final four. I like Holmes chances of returning to Rupp.

Early on it looked like this game was going to be a blow out as Holmes built a 16-6 lead but Ryle came out and took it to the Dogs once Ricardo Johnson got in foul trouble.

 

Ryle finally tied the game at 26 and both teams would trade baskets the rest of the game until a run by Ryle put them up by 7 with around 5 minutes to play in the game. For whatever reason, neither Elijah Pittman or Ricardo Johnson were in the game the first 3 minutes of the 4th qaurter and Ryle capitalized and was able to hold on.

 

Pittman tried to take over late with RJ on the bench in foul trouble, but it was simply too little, too late. Holmes got within 1 at 47-46 and had the ball with around 45 seconds left (I think) but a travelling call on Chris Hayes under the basket gave the ball right back to Ryle and they'd seal the deal at the line.

 

Down 3 with a chance to tie, Elijah Pittman misses a 3, Ryle gets a long outlook pass and finishes the game with a lay up right before the buzzer sounds...ballgame.

BTW, this loss ended a 3 yr home winning streak for Holmes against 9th reigon teams. The last time they had lost at home to a 9th region team before last night was Jan. 12, 2007 to Holy Cross in overtime.

Things definitely went the Raiders way tonight. Not sure what to expect with them this season. They seem to beat some teams you wouldn't expect and lose to teams they aren't supposed to. With that said, they are surely capable of having big post season, but they will need to get McLeish and Coleman to be good floor leaders and unite their team or it will be a quick exit in my opinion.

 

That team will be very hard for any player to unite with the poor leadership at head coaching spot.
