Cabrera would probably be an upgrade. My fear is that Dusty will hit Janish 2nd. If that's the case, we HAVE to have someone else. If he's going to hit 7th or 8th, then I can live with that.

 

If I had my pick, I'd probably go after Amezega. Unless Cabrera is under $3 million (or so).

 

 

 

I would be shocked if Baker hit Janish 2nd. Well it's Baker, so not shocked, but disappointed I guess is the better word. I think Dickerson would bat 2nd if he is the starting LF. I really would like to hear a good scouting report on Cabrera. I'v heard that he has really lost his range at SS, and that is why the Nationals are looking at him as a 2nd basemen. If the Reds decide to go with what they have then I would go with Frazier at SS if he proves he can hit like he has in the minors.

At 35, Cabrera is probably worth a sniff, but nothing more.

 

I doubt they are, but I wouldn't mind if the Reds inquired about Orlando Hudson. Apparently he's down to the Nationals (big money) and the Rays. I think he made $3.8 million last year in LA, plus incentives.

 

Frazier has 1,174 AB's through 3 seasons in the minors. He's hit .296 there with an OBP% of .367.

 

My vote would be to let him & Janish compete for the starting job. If that's the case, I think Janish wins the job but ultimately Frazier will wind up with the job.

Frankly, not a lineup that inspires alot of excitement in January. Bruce needs to step up his game big time this season for the Reds to compete.

 

There's not many teams out there for whom Janish would start at SS. Solid backup and utility player, but a shame he's our starter.

The whole outfield really needs to step up if the Reds are gonna compete. I'm not sold on any of them. I thought Bruce went backwards last year. Gomes is a must if you ask me. :idunno:

If this were 1975, then Janish would be a perfectly logical pick. There was more than enough offense elsewhere to compensate for Geronimo and Concepcion.

 

Unfortunately, the 2010 Reds don't have that. Sure, if Rolen is healthy, Bruce bounces back, and BP and Votto have solid years, that's a start...but IMO, there's too many questions with what production we may get from left, center and catcher. You couple those with shortstop, and that's half of your regular starting lineup! :scared:

The catching spot was an offensive black hole for the Reds last season. The catchers as a whole batted .250 with 7 Homeruns 45 Runs Scored and 50 RBIs. Even the shortstop and centerfield positions produced more runs.

Don't most teams usually have that many people in camp? You can only carry 40 players on your roster, so anything over that is non roster players.

I misread the original post - thought it meant 57 invited players plus 17 nonroster players, which seems high. I know Leatherpants had a history of bringing in every scrub, has-been, never-was, wannabe, rag arm pitcher he could for camp and it never produced much and probably gives you less time to really analyze the ones who have a legitimate chance to help the team.

ESPN has come out with their Top 100 prospects. Frazier is listed at #66 but, at least to scouts, he has does not have what it takes to play shortstop in the big leagues. They basically said that it doesn't look like he has the power or patience at the plate to put in an outfield corner position, or the footwork to play second base and that he'd be best suited to third--but that his way is blocked by Franciso.
