It's the end of a decade and there have been so many "Best of" and "Worst of" lists that I thought on the eve of the boys All "A" tournament, we could discuss and debate who the best Championship team of the past decade was.

Below are the winners, by year, and their championship game results:

2000 - Newport Central Catholic beat Highview Baptist, 52-33

2001 - Glasgow over Somerset, 60-52

2002 - University Heights over Somerset, 58-46

2003 - St. Henry over Rose Hill, 81-62

2004 - Hazard over Bishop Brossart, 43-38

2005 - University Heights over Somerset, 61-52

2006 - Bardstown over Owensboro Catholic, 53-50

2007 - Bishop Brossart over Bardstown, 56-48

2008 - University Heights over Hazard, 53-46

2009 - Shelby Valley over Bardstown, 58-55

This poll is only meant for those that really know there "A" basketball in Kentucky. Looking your thoughts and opinions on who the best of these 10 teams were.

Vote in the poll, state your case.

I would think that last year's champion (Shelby Valley) would be the best, but with the loss to Elliot County on Friday night ( in the rematch) at the sweet 16 it's hard to vote for them. When Lex. Cath. was still 1a how many All "A" did they win if ever? I took UH of 2008 but could also take UH 2002 with Moss as well.

Did not mention team

St. Henry has my vote. They had a chance to win the big state tournament that year and fell short by I believe 1 point to Chris Loften and Mason County in the first round who if I remember right won the state tournament that year. Correct me if I am wrong.

They did play Mason close that year at Rupp. Who was on that St. Henry team? DId any of them play anywhere. Just wondering, nothing against the team.

2007 Brossart, If Mason Co wasn't so loaded that year, Brossart would have won the 10th.

G - Matt Fabiani

G - Ross Czarnik

C - Michael Schmidt (Tourny MVP)

F - Matt Otte

F - Todd Vieth

They were beating the Chris Lofton/Dustin Grutza led Mason Cty team at halftime and if not for the injury to Michael Schmidt late in the first half, they beat Mason Co for the upset of the decade perhaps.

As far as after school, Fabiani bounced around a bit, I think. Czarnik, Vieth and Schmidt (because of injury in final game) all ended their basketball careers. Vieth was a tremendous baseball player and I believe he continued that career in college. Matt Otte went on to play 4 years at Bellarmine in Louisville.

I remember that team and listening to that game, and without the injury, I think they would have done it.

St Henry had a very good team.

You would have to say University Heights since they won 3 titles. Hands down and especially the year they had Scotty Hopson in 08. And we are talking about the All A not the sweet 16 so who cares what they did the rest of the season.

-The 2000 Newport Catholic team that routed Highview Baptist was really good.

-University Heights in 2002 was impressive. Ravi Moss basically got a call to UK because of his tournament.

-They weren't necessarily the best, but the 2006 Bardstown team was very solid and enjoyable to watch.

Got to say the '07 Brossart squad. Beat a murderer's row of NC, Gallatin, UHA and defending champ Bardstown to win it. Beat a UHA team with Hopson and Edmonson by 20. Finished with the #1 Ranking in the Final N. KY Coaches Poll. Finished 28-5 with 3 of their losses to the Daruis Miller led Mason County Royals. Also lost to LexCath at the Lexcath tourney by 3. Second best team in the 10th behind the mighty State Champion Royals.

The 2004 Hazard team was very good.

Fabiani had plans to play at Bellarmine. After about 2 weeks there, he transferred to Kentucky. Czarnik & Schmidt both went on to life after basketball. Todd Vieth played baseball at Miami (OH) for a short while. I think he suffered an injury and gave it up.

Matt Otte played JV for Bellarmine at first and continued to work and got some time. He had a few big games there.

As for the thread, I think '03 St. Henry has my vote.

The 2005 UHA team had Joshua Mack at the point and a nice mix of speed and size. They made it to the Saturday morning of the Sweet 16 that year. One of the most explosive teams I've seen play
