Then, out of the blue (green) a new poster posts a comment on Coach Beatty after a Male person mention 3 guys, two with HCing ecxperince and one from the East End.

Since someone politely floated my name out there (thanks for that) on this board, probably the right thing for me to let those interested know I have withdrawn my name from consideration for the head football coaching job at Male.

 

In the two days since the final interviews and with the thought that I might be offered a job in a GREAT situation, it weighed heavily on me that I would also be leaving something that is even better.

 

More importantly, we'd be leaving after establishing incredible RELATIONSHIPS with parents who have been supportive, a faculty that shows their appreciation, an administration that's done nothing but everything we've asked, coaches in other sports that have been GREAT to work cooperatively with, and above all kids (not all, but almost all) who have completely bought-in to a disciplined system.

 

For those reasons, there was no reason to leave one great situation for another. As professional as the administration at Male was with me -- and as understanding as the Ballard administration was about all this -- I know it was the right thing to let them know my intentions rather than say 'no' if offered.

 

I don't know who will end up being offered the job now...I do know that EITHER of the ones I think are in the offing will do a GREAT job for the kids at Male High School. And because of them, Male will continue to be Male.

Good explanation. However, If you applied for the Male job why get upset if your name gets out there? If you are open with current administration it shouldnt matter what gets put out there.

Thanks also Coach J. This is hard on coaches/people who apply for a position in any situation. As humans we want what is best in our life, and sometimes its better to stay put.

Was totally open with my administration (and they were extraordinarily understanding and supportive from the beginning, I'll add). Also, I know the administration at Male were very professional about confidentiality--something I really appreciated.

 

It's 100% about KIDS. Can't exactly go in and tell 100 kids you've built relationships with that you're thinking about another job -- especially when you don't know how long the process will take. Even when it's one with the tradition of Male, kids would still be hurt and confused. No need to place doubt in a kid's mind when he's working hard for next season (and our kids have been BUSTING it) wondering about whether a big change is on the horizon.

 

And I'm sorry it was implied I was 'upset;' Always knew there was a chance it could get out and was willing to deal with those quesions if they came up...just would RATHER it had not happened.

 

The good thing about all this is, today, I get to go tell a bunch of kids there's no place I'd rather be...and it's mainly because of how hard it would be to leave THEM after all they've done for me the last 2 1/2 years!
