Duke to Open UofL's new areana???

Featured Replies

Tonight on Pitino's Coaches Show he said that they were trying to get Duke to be the first opponent in the new arena next season.

Said they are really close toa three year deal with the Blue Devils. At Louisville the first year, at the Garden the second year and at Duke the third year. Pitino said he was very excited about the series because he has never coached at Cameron Indoor.

Would love to see this happen. Im sure RP would love this as well... When do tickets go on sale?:dancingpa

Wow! That would certainly be a great way to break in the new arena.

NKU will be the first game at U of L new place. Duke might be the first regular season game though.

To hell with Duke. Why not restart the series with Memphis State instead? They can call it the "Metro Classic" and it can be the two teams' traditional opener. The one wrinkle being that in years three and four they have to play in Freedom Hall and the Mid-South Coliseum, just for old-time's sake, with LA and Elliott "The Chicken Boy" Perry serving as honorary coaches for each team.

Speaking of Freedom Hall, how much use will it get when UofL leaves for the new arena?

I'm sure there will still be plenty of uses, as the cost to rent the new arena will be prohibitive for a lot of things. I would venture it could possibly be used for a lot more things now that there won't be conflicts the 20 or so times a year it's used for UofL hoops.

Plus, they now can have all the UK games there they want. :D

There has been talks of Memphis too. I miss playing them, they were always my most hated rival for the Cards.

I'm excited about the potential of this series.

Yes, talking regular season. The actual first regular season game will be UofL and UT women.

I would love to see Louisville start playing Duke on a regular basis. Two big time coaches/big time programs, what more do you need?

I am very....very excited at the thought of this....

I think that would be pretty cool. What a way to open your new arena! You would hate for the first game to be against Podunk State or some slackjawed team that won't compete with the Cardinals. Great idea!

You all know that this is like my worst nightmare ever though....hahaha
