The HOF commitee may show some forgiveness and he either gets in by the skin of his teeth or never even makes a climb up the ladder to Cooperstown. First, no he should not face perjury charges because he never actually denied taking steroids to congress. Secondly the HOF is/should be based on a players statistics while they were in baseball not if they were a nice person as a hitting coach after they admitted to steroid use. If he is inducted in the HOF it needs to be on his numbers not his actions post steroid admission.

He never told congress that he did or didn't take steroids. He just stated that he was not there to talk about the past, but the future. He just never answered their question. He caught a lot of flack about that, but I have to give him credit. At least he was smart enough to realize that if he wasn't ready to come clean, there would be worse consequences if he lied to congress.

Everyone assumed he had used and those that voted for him previously obviously didn't care and those that did not vote for him really don't have any additional incentive to do so now.

I guess we'll have to see, but it's highly doubtful he's going to change as many voters' minds as would be needed to get to 75%. It will be very interesting to see someone like Palmerio's vote total his first year (2011). He surely has HOF numbers and if he doesn't get elected or come up with a very high percentage total, I think it'll be clear that voters are no where close to allowing the "known" steroid users in.
January 11, 201016 yr I guess he realized that he is not getting into the HOF unless he he did this. I don't think it will matter, and don't think he will get in anyways. He had to take a shot at it though.

That's what bothers me the most. I always like Mac. I always figured he, Bonds and Sosa were on them. They saved baseball and most thought they were on them so it doesn't bother me that bad. They didn't break the rules. They were wrong but most knew what they were watching and enjoyed the show. What bothers me is that he came out at a time that his hand was almost forced. He still came out though. I hope it starts a domino effect so everybody can just move on! That is the best thing that can happen out of all of this IMO. The end of an era somewhat! Now if baseball would just get a salary cap they might have a shot to build something special again.
