In the last week, 3 of KY top freshman have had breakout games according to Demling's blog.

 

James Quick - Had 17 points, 8 rebounds and 7 steals as Trinity beat Holy Cross 66-46

 

Nate McGovney - Had 15 points as Campbell County upset Mason County 59-53 at the Fieldhouse.

 

Dominique Hawkins - Had 30 points as Madison Central lost a close one to Bryan Station 65-60.

 

Add in Darryl Hicks, Larry Morton, Blake Sanders, Christian McClendon, Mason Monroe, Omar Prewitt and many others and the class of 2013 looks loaded.

Don't forget to add in your neighbor up the road, Justin Saunders. :thumb:

Here in Bardstown, there are some quality youngsters making noise for local teams. Jordan Cooper at Bethlehem and Marcus Cosby at B'town High are both pretty consistent double-digit scorers and while I don't have official numbers, based on what I've seen I would imagine both players are their respective teams' leading scorers.

Add the name Jordan Olinger from Hazard. He had 18 versus Knott Central.

I think Kyle Brown is a freshman for West Carter and I know he had 20+ against Elliott.

Kyle Skaggs had 24 for Russell vs. Fleming Co.

I saw Quick this past week. Real Deal.

Quick will be a Div 1 footballer for sure at Trinity.

Mike Smith at Sayre has to be one of the top scorers in the state as a freshman, if not the leading scorer. He started as an 8th grader last year as well.

Morton is not playing anywhere. Supposedly, he is at Lexington Catholic and sitting out after playing illegally at Dunbar last year, which led forfeiture of all their games. He would be one of the top 20 in that age group if he was playing.

Mason Monroe has 16 points last night in Pendleton County's blowout of Cooper.

Mason Monroe has had some nice games against Clark County 17pts, Holmes, Brossart and Ryle. He was MVP of the game for Pendleton County in the Bluegrass-Buckeye Charity Classic at NKU's Bank of Kentucky Center. I am not sure if a freshman has ever won this award in this classic before. This freshman seems to really get fired up and plays very well in the "BIG" games.

Monroe is an unflappable shooter and ballhandler. It's amazing to believe he is only a freshman. "Straight Face Mase" has an outstanding basketball IQ and seems to never be rattled, even in Pendleton's biggest games.

Saunders is having a great freshman year for the Brossart Mustangs.

 

Coming off of an ankle sprain which cost him a couple of games recently.

He is now 100% and ready to get back to making major contributions.
