KY Freshmen having break out games

Featured Replies

I really like Saunders game at Brossart. He is another high IQ player and does alot of things that do not show up in the scorebook.

Mike Smith at Sayre has to be one of the top scorers in the state as a freshman, if not the leading scorer. He started as an 8th grader last year as well.

Mike is another fine freshman that doesn't get alot of recognition. I like his game and intensity. He also may be the best freshman defender also!

This Freshman class 2013 is really loaded with many kids who can and love to play the game!! May very vell be the deepest class that Kentucky has seen in quite awhile.

Add the name Jordan Olinger from Hazard. He had 18 versus Knott Central.

Another Olinger!?!?!? You've got to be kidding me! lol

Hicks from Shelby is the best in the state for the class of 13' Hands down! He made a visit with coach Cal and the wildcats saturday...

How many of these freshman were held back and should be sophmores?

Why does it matter? They are playing against varsity competition. :deadhorse:

As I have said many times before, all that matters is that you are eligible to play your senior season.

I agree!! Why do people get caught up in this held back issue?

Monroe is an unflappable shooter and ballhandler. It's amazing to believe he is only a freshman. "Straight Face Mase" has an outstanding basketball IQ and seems to never be rattled, even in Pendleton's biggest games.

Mason has been that way since the very first time I saw him play as a 10-year old. And, 5 years later, I have seen him play probably 300+ times with AAU and everything, and there is very rarely a game that goes by when you say he did nothing. He may not always lead the team in scoring or assists or whatever other stat you may want to mention, but he is so consistent and solid in so many ways, it is very tough to take him off the floor.

All of them because the class ahead of them was lame.

There, how's that?

At what age do you consider them being a true freshman?

Please, let's not go down this road again. We'll keep the topic on current freshmen and their games. We have multiple threads that have dealt with holdbacks, "true freshmen", AAU age restrictions and they are in other threads. If you wish to revist them, do a search and bring them back up. Discussion down that road will lead to this one being closed.

Kyle Skaggs had 24 for Russell vs. Fleming Co.

I think it does matter if you are trying to project the future impact of these players.

For instance, if Hicks is a year or so older and has finished growing(and I have no idea how old he is) then, even though he is a great player, he may be passed by in the next few years when other kids grow.

If he puts on another 2-3 inches, he will be a major D1 talent!
