I agree, Coach Lucas = good hire and I'm done.

I think Coach Lucas Is an excellent coach and has done a great job at BS, but Coach Nichols was getting some of the best players around town, even from St. X that is one reason that rivalry was so intense. Your not going to beat the big 2 in 6A, if anyone had a chance it was this year against Trinity and no one could do it. Good luck to Coach Lucas, but tough road ahead.

At least the new ball coach will get a nice easy start to the 2010 season. Highlands at Highlands.

I do not think BS has enough talent coming back next year to make any noise, that is why coach Lucas is leaving.Manual is where he can get better players and that is what is necessary to win over T & X.

 

Actually, Bryan Station has a lot of talent coming back. They also had an undefeated freshmen team this year. Sometimes in life you find you just have to make a change. If Oliver Lucas is indeed the new Coach at Manual, he will do an outstanding job.

Look, Coach Lucas had to build the Station program from the ground up. They had not won more than 2 games in 7 years, the facilities were deteriorated and lacking, the team had no weight room or off season program when he arrived. I think he has done remarkable work in 4 years, upgrading the entire program to make them competitive with the best in the state. Most improtantly, Coach Lucas had to change the losing culture of BS football and this is no small feat teaching kids how to win. As far as not getting to regional, well few teams can lose a 2000+ yard rusher to injury at the start of the game and get past good teams like Henry Clay, which was shut out through 4 quarters for the first time in 7 years. I think with some infrastructure in place and some good talent that knows how to win returning Coach Lucas can make Manual into a team that can eventually compete for state.

 

Also, you seem to be a Louisville guy, I'm a Lexington guy, I watch the ball that's played around here. If anyone from Lex ever made it to state we'd get to see how they fare against X & T. If you want to talk disappointment, how did Henry Clay lose to Scott County? As far as athletes and speed they are not even close.

Just curious, but what makes this such a great hire? Didn't Joe turn the program around? From what I remember Manual was a bit a doormat when he got there...or does my memory serve me wrong? I don't think this is a bad hire, but just wondering what the point in letting Joe go was if this was who they were hoping to land? Just curious...don't want to ruffle anybody's feathers!

Students, parents, football players and community will all be pleased with this selection. As a Bryan Station supporter we are sad to see him go.

I don't think they let Coach Nichols go with the intention of hiring Lucas. Coach Nichols had his own issues and they apparently could not be worked out. Coach Lucas just seems like the man they settled on after the search. They seem like 2 separate occurances, Lucas just happens to be the guy taking over for Coach Nichols.

 

All this talk about Lucas, what does the team look like? Sounds like it was a young team last year, but I looked up their schedule and it's tough, especially the first few games. If they can pull a couple of wins out of their 1st 4 games they could have a nice year.

Coach Lucas sounds like a nice guy. Manual needs to figure out how to beat St. X., otherwise it could be more of the same results.

Does anyone know who the final canidates were? How many interviews etc?

They might have had some phantom interviews, and interviewed only their newest choice. Could have been a done deal for sometime unless someone can conform some other canidates?

Comfirming the other interviewees does not mean anything, Dave Weston was one and the other was the Liggins fellow who was an assistant at Central before Scroggins took over. In my opinion they were just the ones needed to fulfill JCPC requirments. It is not hard to figure that out when certain references were never even called! People talk, I don't care who they are, when a person gets interviewed and some very reputable references are listed but never called, that tells you all there is to know.....umm,.....maybe.:sssh:

Coach Lucas was not Wooldridge's first choice, that particular candidate was NOT a high school experienced coach and would not have had a "teaching" position in the school.
