I'd like to see a few:

1. Any slap of the backboard on a shot attempt (incidental or not) would be goal tending just like touching the rim or the net.

2. Clock stop on made baskets in the last minute of the 4th quarter.

3. Any pivot after a jump stop off the dribble should be a walk.

I agree with your first statement.

1. I agree with you, but touching the rim or net is basket interference, not goaltending.

2. I like this also, but if you stop the clock on made baskets, stop it the entire game.

Also,

-- Eliminate the coach calling time out during active play. Dead ball situations I don't have a problem with. (The ball becomes live when handed to the shooter / thrower.)

-- Time outs should not require both feet on the floor, but definately eliminate the player jumping / falling out of bounds.

-- Keep the possession arrow. Starting every quarter or held ball with a jump is too great an advantage.

-- Push the ball to half court on a time out immediately following a successful try (for goal).

-- Do not paint the circle on the floor under the basket, make officials call it the right way.

-- Go back the release on free throws.

-- Simplify the uniform requirements to be in line with the NCAA.

-- Eliminate Title 9 scheduling requirements for prime time games. Too many programs are being forced to schedule varsity contestS (b/g) on the same night.

-- Put down a line (similar to football) 4 feet from the floor. This is the line that the CHAIRS must be behind. Each gym will be required to have 4 feet of space behind the chairs (about 10 feet from the floor). If you have to leave the back 2 rows folded in, then do so. We need space to play the game.

Well you should be happy because #3 is already a rule. If you jump from your pivot foot to a jump stop, you are not allowed a pivot.

Good luck with the last 3.

Title 9 is the law.

In some gyms there aren't 4 feet of "extra" space.

You are correct!

I do not like the whole hand check rule. It is only called if there is an "advantage or disadvantage." A foul is a foul.

How about the whole block/charge rule. If two officials make different calls, there has to be one official who is responsible for that position, their call should over rule.

Dribbling up the floor, make a strong move into the lane, jump stop 5 or 6 feet like Jeff Sheppherd at UK used to do, land on both feet, then pivot. It isn't a walk right now because at the time of the jump stop a pivot foot hasn't been establlished.

It always cracks me up how people wax poetic about the good ol' jump ball days. I'm nearly 30 years old and I never remember this being a rule. Does anyone know when this rule was removed?

1981 was when the college rules changed to alternating possession. I am not for sure when the high school rules changed.

Wrong, if you are dribbling and jump stop you are not allowed to pivot. A pivot after a jump stop is a walk! :thumb:

Depends. When did the dribble stop? How did the person take off? How did they land?

Tried to make that point earlier in a post and got criticized for it. Glad to see somebody else agrees. Coaches being able to call time outs during live ball situations penalizes the defense so many times. If a player puts him/her self in a bad position and defense helps force it, then why should Coach be able to bail them out. Make players accountable for their own actions.

Mid 80's I believe.

Why should a coach not be allowed to call a time out?

A football coach can call a timeout from the sidelines

A baseball coach can go out and talk to a pitcher when he is in a bad situation

Why shouldn't a basketball coach be allowed to call a timeout? I like the rule and I'm glad it is in place.
