Nice win for the Mustangs. Armstrong showed great leadership. He played a solid game and wanted the ball in the 4th to seal the victory.

 

There was one instance in the game last night that reminds me why I gave up officiating years ago and how it has become such a thankless job.

 

When the game got close in the 3rd or 4th qtr., the Mustangs had possession on the left wing. The player with the ball started a strong dribble drive to the hoop. He was held by the on ball defender as he entered the lane, continued to the rim, drew contact and the ball went in the hoop. Both officials blew the whistle for fouls. The outer official had the hold, the underneath official was calling the shot contact. They conferred and rightly so, the first foul was called. I thought a few of the fans were going to come out of the stands. Standing, screaming, pointing at the official for doing what I would think they should hope he would do, call a foul on the Birds.

 

BTW, is there a reason why some nights you have 3 officials, and other nights you have two?

 

I heard some places go with two because it is cheaper. But I have only heard of this in ninth region???

Also, I do not know if it was mentioned but BB took two out of three from the birds. The BB Frosh won 46-34

You certainly were right and the Birds got by a tough Mason Co team on Friday night with out them but just couldnt pull it off 2 nights in a row.

I thought that the Brossart coaches had a good game plan and adjusted well. Highlands should have more offensive firepower/sets, than they showed Sat. night. I realize the two missing players are the best offensive threats, but others including Watson, can contribute more if given the opportunity. At one point in the second quarter, they ran the same offensive set at least 8 times in a row without success.

 

I hope as the season goes on they diversify the offense and get out faster with good outlet passes.

Expect Grote back in the line-up Tues. against Newport @ Newport... Kowolonek is day-to-day tendinitis in the knee my guess would be this coming weekend for the tournament in Lexington.

Wow...I realize Highlands played without Kowolonek and Grote but this score still surprises me.

 

Thats a lot of talent, its very challenging to win without those caliber players.

Way too physical a match-up for only 2 officials, and it wasn't a surprise that it would be played that way??

Only two officials for the HHS v Dixie game also, and it was a very physical game. I know other schools have three officials for every game. Two officials for a mens varsity game seems to be asking a lot from referees who have a tough enough job anyways. HHS only has 3 officials on their Friday night matchups. Maybe the NRBOA should demand there be three officials for all varsity games.

Even though the correct call is in everyone's area. With only 2 there does not seem to be the other guy's area and usually the whistle gets tooted more. Especially if the 2 are capable. Usually during the regular season a three man crew contains 1 capable man, 1 young ref needing experience and 1 more (that I should not use my words to describe).

This simply is not true. You will not get a 3 man game unless you are rated high enough by the coaches and the association.

I think the football finances are pretty well squared away at Highlands. The Birds chartered 3 primo luxury busses to make the long trip (6 miles) from Ft. Thomas to Cov. Cath. this past fall. It looked like a caravan Taylor Swift would travel in, if she had just won the powerball. While they probably would not have been in jeporady of losing the game even if they had jogged to Park Hills, I have to admit it was pretty impressive.

Yup and we are still waiting for the basketball gymmnasium to get some upgrades considering nothing has changed since my 63 year old mother graduated from there in 1965.
