Glad to see that Stoeckle straightened out the sideline in the sideline pic. That "pic from the sky" was a thing of beauty.

Gym shoes work just as good. The cleats kind of get caught up in the turf. So if your asking for Pulaski then tell them gym shoes are what work.

For those that have not been to Highlands for a game you are in for a treat. It is a good football experience! As far as parking, what works for me is going down to the Memorial Parkway exit on 471 and driving up the hill (away from Newport) through Bellview. I park as close as I can and then walk up the hill to the field. Then when the game is over the walk back down doesnt seem as bad and is alot quicker. At any rate get there early!!!

I "think" he means, he likes to approach from the hill, and then park on Memorial, down the hill from the school. Personally, I think parking uptown or over on North by the church.

 

Speaking of that, I heard some ol' boys from JC talking, behind me, the other night. One of 'em said he had parked in the church lot. Said he saw a sign that said "chuch parking only," but ignored it because he figured, "They ain't gonna have church on a Friday night!" :lol:

I was sitting next to the bus driver of JC ,real nice guy, gave the birds lots of compliments, he had nothing to do with the football team, he was just the driver. The whole time he was at Highlands he thought he was in Florence.( OH WELL) :lol::lol::lol:

I think the First Baptist should ask for a donation. Seize the opportunity. On another note; one night there was a wedding rehersal the same night as the football game. They were completely ticked and could not believe there was a game that night.:idunno::lol:

The field turf Highlands installed is actually a better product than the fields most schools are installing today. It has both, a rubber and sand base. Most fields installed today just have the rubber base. Also, this field does not become slippery when wet!!! A big plus.

 

Yes, the field looks a tad worn. That is due in large part to its exposure to the sun and other outdoor conditions after 7+ years, but better, due to all the many uses the field has provided to the youth of Ft Thomas! :thumb:

As far as I know, metal cleats have been illegal in football for a good 15 years, regardless of playing surface.

 

As far as your field drainage goes though, I suppose a mixture of sand and rubber would create a better subgrade...the rubber allows for superior drainage and the sand for a more natural "terra firma" feel to the field. However, in the end, the drainage all comes down to the actual drainage piping that gets installed under that subgrade.

 

I've built a handful of the new artificial turf fields, and it's the piping that makes all the difference. I'm just finishing up the new soccer stadium at NKU, and they put about $150k into their drainage piping. That field will be bone dry - even in the worst of weather. However, I can think of a field I put in up towards Dayton, OH, and it had virtually no drain piping. The playing surface itself was great, but there have been occasions where the football and soccer teams were literally playing in standing water.

 

Also, if you guys have 7-8 years of use on the playing surface, I would guess they're probably already making plans to replace it. The manufacturers usually rate the surface for 10 years of "well cared-for usage".

I have not heard anything about the replacement yet... my guess is the school and community are going to get every second of playing time out the surface as possible. I may be mistaken, but I think we are still paying for this surface... I am now starting rumors that the next field will be bluuuuuuuue field turf!

 

as far as the drainage systems, I will let some of the BGP construction experts comment on that. IMO, the field drains fine for the hardest of rains.
