I guess it's a shame he couldn't finish his career in high school to save face.

 

He was on scholarship as a QB at a D1 school. Pretty small percentage of kids every get to realize that dream. And if each D1 team has 3 on scholly, only 1 at a time will be seeing the field. The odds are pretty slim that a HS QB who signs to play D1 will actually see much PT anyway. It didn't work out for Fidler. Recruits are a gamble. There have been many kids they were supposed to be world beaters and didn't work out. Others who were vastly overlooked and coaches thought they couldn't cut it in college, but they did just fine, Derek Abney was told by Wisconsin, that he couldn't play D1, ... not big enough. He holds many UK and NCAA records; Derek Locke was told that he would be better off just running track and possibly returning kicks. Wasn't even on football scholly at UK until he proved he could play.

 

I think the staff made the right decision for the program. As far as Fidler, I am glad to see how much class he showed in how he handled the situation.

Matt Cassel never saw the field at USC, was he a waste? And before you say it, I am in no way comparing Fidler to Cassel or saying Fidler needs to be drafted.

If they did, they would have a better appreciation for the sacrifice it takes to lift, run, meet, and practice for four years, only to get in on only a few plays in his career. Not everyone can be an all-American, but that does not mean he is a wasted scholarship.

You can't compare because Newton was allowed to play more then a couple of series. Newton looked awful his first few games and has been able to settle down and start to get some rythum. Will has never had that chance.

Morgan Newton is not a dual threat quarterback, he is a pro style pocket passer.

 

Just ask "Clyde". He reminds him of Matthew Stafford.

I'll stand by that comment as it was intended which was in regards to having a cannon for an arm and being a big strong qb.

Will Fidler is a class act. When things were going bad for UK and Newton at Georgia, I saw Fidler talking to Newton and was obviously trying to encourage him. Then when KY pulled it out, look at who was celebrating with Newton. Fidler could have very easily been a divisive influence on the team, especially with the upper classmen, yet he chose the opposite path which may have had as much to do with UK's success as anything.:thumb::thumb:
