George Rogers Clark/Holmes scrimmage

Featured Replies

Do they not know how to play hard all the time???? I thought it counted every time you step on the court, and the score board lights are on. Surely they haven't taken on a "primadonna attitude" that they will only step up "when it counts". I thought every game counted. With the talent they have, they should be every bit as good as they were last season.

IMO players and teams will only improve if they play and practice hard all the time. Sounds to me like Clark County has taken on this type of work ethic.

I totally agree. Every time you step between the lines in any sport you should give maximum effort. IMO i did not see that from Holmes against GRC for whatever reason. To only step it up "when it counts" is not they way to go because there may be a big game when they try to "step up" or turn it on and they wont be able to. IMO just play hard all the time.

Of course you always want to play your hardest but also remember the scrimmages are to work with your team and figure out your strenghts. It looked to me like Holmes may be running a new offense this year, perhaps they were trying to work out some of the kinks. Either way this will be a good team and these two teams are two of the best in the state. We want to talk about how poor Holmes looked but lets not forget the Clark Co. is one of the best in the state as well.

I don't think playing hard is exactly the reason Holmes didn't perform that well. I am guessing Holmes and Clark Co. played a lot of players and neither team was playing like they will in a regular season game.

I think people are looking too much in to this scrimmage with some of the comments being made about Holmes.

I wasnt there but had a long conversation about the scrimmage with someone that was there and they told me this.

GRC only played their top 7 in the first half.:

Stenzel, Kindred, Zollo, Purvis, Rogers, Daniels, Van Cleve

Fatkin, Skinner, and #34 saw limited action in the second half.

Holmes on the other hand played 10 different players:onsistently cthe whole game:

Starters: R. Johnson, J. Johnson, Pittman, Slusher, Avery

Off the bench: Mcclendon (Frosh), Rice (JR) , Mayfield (JR), Hayes (JR), Herndon (SR)

Let's not sit here and act like R. Johnson being out didn't make a difference. I'm pretty sure the same thing happened to Holmes last year in their scrimmage against Tates Creek and they lost by a similar margin. When the two met two weeks later in the regular season, Holmes beat them by 26.

The Dogs will be fine. Henley uses preseason games to develop depth and work on things.

With that said, GRC is also a very strong contender for the State Title but we are way way too early on to start prognosticating.

Are you sure about that? ESPN already has the brackets for each region set for March Madness! :jump:

On GRC's rotation, Rogers, Skinner and Dini all just joined the team on Monday due to Football. They had not even practiced a week of basketball. Daniels started center, where Rogers was the starting center last year.

Now to R. Johnson being hurt, that can make a huge difference. Believe me we know too well how injuries can effect a team. Get Johnson back for Holmes, and give GRC's football players time to adjust and we should have a barn burner. This may happen in the King of the Bluegrass tourney if both can advance.

GRC has established themselves as a contender for this years title. I thought they'd be really good, but from the sounds of the game I would really like to see this team play. I'm sure Holmes will pick it up. Too much talent and too good of coaching IMO.

Still talking about a scrimmage?:deadhorse:

What else to talk about this time of the year? :idunno:

:notworthy:

So why are we still having this discussion :idunno:

Lets let time prevail and if these teams advance to play in the KOB then we will see who the better team is...

As the great Allen Iverson once stated "practice? practice??? we talkin' bout practice!!! Come on man, PRACTICE!!!"

hahaha

It was just a practice where Holmes and Clark had a scrimmage and Clark won. :taz:
