As you can see by the second half scoreboard it wasn't quite the way you saw it. Holmes was without Rico and still led by 8. Right after this the shoving altercation took the game a different direction. No cake walk here.

 

That was after a 14 point lead ending the first half and GRC playing most of the JV at this point! Holmes made this run to start the second half but that was all they could muster. GRC controlled the entire game if you score both halves together!

Would like to know how the scoring, assist and rebounding went for GRC.

The game was a good chance for the coaches to get messages to their teams and I think they were both successful: for Henley, it showed his team that they can't just show up and get another hunk of KHSAA walnut; for Humphrey, he coached to show his players that they have a chance to have a special season. IMO, game meant more to GRC; Henley was up even less than normal and Humphrey was up preaching the gap gospel the whole game.

Not taking a thing away from GRC....I was duely impressed. But I don't think you write off a state champ on a scrimmage game. They may have a little something left in their bag of tricks. All season long teams are going to want to beat the State Champs. I agree with D Series, GRC played like there was no tomorrow.

There is only 3 minutes left in the entire second half at this point. Not just a run to start the second half.

Like I said Humphrey played a lot of young players up until this point in the game....can we agree to disagree? My Opinion is...Holmes does not have the depth a team needs to win a state championship, simply MY opinion!:confused:

It was a scrimmage game. That is very important to remember. I can assure you one thing. If they had been playing in Rupp with a state title on the line, you would have seen a completely different Holmes team. After all, they are the current title holders, and they will get everyone's best shot regardless if it's a scrimmage or not. The Bulldogs will be in Rupp come March. When you have been to the summit, you need more than a scrimmage to motivate you.

I thought Stenzel and Daniels both had great games. Stenzel made some great passes and scored well. Daniels took the ball to the bucket well and made some good plays. Both had dunks. Purvis and Zollo were impressive going to the boards and fought hard. Kendred played well . Overall a good effort by both teams. Again, it was only a scrimmage.

What Holmes really seemed to lack was someone who could knock down the 3 on a consistant basis. That is the only difference I saw from last years Championship team. But its early. And I agree that GRC is going to be there at Rupp. Good luck to both teams.

Not sure if you saw the same game as I did. GRC was never behind in this one and Holmes was unable to overtake the lead even before the injured player left the game! Holmes does not have the depth to repeat. GRC is clearly a favorite at this point in my opinion! They played like a team on a mission and dismantled a talented Holmes team. By the end of the game the Holmes players were spent after facing wave after wave of GRC line ups. I thought Holmes played a little rough and took some cheap shots toward the end but they will beat a lot of teams......just not this one!

The point guard for GRC was given to several players including a much improved Jaylen Daniels. His ball handling was much improved over a year ago. This team is for real and will be in rupp come march! Mark It Down!

I was at the game also and Ricardo went down with 5 minutes to go in the half and Holmes ahead with 26 pts, (not sure how many they were up by at that time). Holmes scored only 2 pts the rest of the half and trailed 40-28 at the half. Holmes clearly had no direction at that point with their leader on the bench. In the 2nd half they played better and Pittman seemed to tried to show some leadership with JJ trying to fill the void. Holmes will struggle early until they find some more guard play and their shots start falling. GRC shot lights out from 3 and clearly outhustled Holmes most of the night.

Are you kidding me? Does anyone possibly think that Holmes played this game for any other reason than it being just a scrimmage? Clark Co played this game like their season was on the line. If anyone thinks this was Holmes best effort, you watched this game with blinders on.

Did Rice for Holmes not play? He had a really good Sweet 16 last year, but I didn't see where he scored.
