Boone County Peewee Football League celebrates its 40th year anniversary

 

BCPWFL has only one game field that is located off of Hopeful road, called Stehlin Field. It is the only field, a natural grass field and it is busting at the seams. Over the years the league added a building to house the equipment, built a concession stand, put in handicap bathrooms, and bigger stands, paved a parking lot and installed lights to allow for more game time. The high schools don't want the pee wee teams on their fields which forces the BCPWFL to play all of their games on one field.

 

Coach Hendrix summed up pretty well, “The biggest need right now for the league is to replace our grass field with Sport Turf in an effort to keep the many boys, and girls (cheerleaders and football players) that are right here in Boone County, positive kids who will grow up to be productive citizens.”

 

Additionally he added, “When the league is not in season the turf could be used for soccer, flag football, mini baseball practices or rugby etc. Again, we would be helping to keep as many kids as active as possible. The only support the league gets from the county is the use of many of the practice fields. Other than that the league is completely self-sufficient and I am very happy to be associated with a league that has been around for 40 years and with the installation of an artificial turf field, it will continue to grow and be around for another 40 years.”

 

 

 

I believe the league just put in a new grass sod this spring? Anyone else with thoughts on the BCPWFL seeking donations for a turf field?

Wish I had the means to donate, but I don't. I'm always for helping out the youth and BCPWFL is truly a class act year in and year out.

They re-sod it each year and pay over 10K to do so. Turf is really needed but I think unless a big sponser comes thru it's far off.

How much could they put in if someone donated? They should talk to Shaun Alexander. He doesn't play anymore, but was willing to help put it in at BCHS several years ago. It'd be worth a shot.

Why are they restricted to 1 location? Why don't the high schools allow the little guys to play on their fields? Before someone jumps out and says that they don't want their fields torn up, it seems to work ok at Dayton, Bellevue, Scott, Campbell County, etc. What about setting up fields at the local parks? On the west side in Cincy, they never play on an actual football field. They generally play on a lined field a one of the parks.

I think they played last year's Superbowl games on Ryle's field, why can't they continue to do this? That's a public school.
