I agree to disagree. Many PeeWee coaches, as sad as it may seem, are about their own personal pride, not about developing players. And yes, there have been many 8th graders play freshman ball for Ryle. In most cases this benefits the athlete themselves thus preparing them for a successful high school career and not an outstanding 8th grade campaign in PeeWee football.

This is insane. It is a volunteer league and the league sends kids to Ryle/Boone/Conner/Cooper. They care about all the kids. Yes the Ryle coach wants the league to pair the 7th/8th grade kids up according to their HS and the league is looking into it. But the league has been ran the same way for 40 years.

Actually, the league used to have kids matched up with their high schools, and the league discontinued this practice because one school was winning frequently, and you know what happened? Guess. The parents got involved, and said it "wasn't fair" because one particular school kept winning. So.........the league abandoned that system, and adopted the draft. IMHO, parents can and do ruin youth sports on many fronts. As far as Ryle goes, they should have zero say in what takes place on their field. Last time I checked, the taxpayers of Boone County built that school. Just because you accept a donation doesn't mean you are not a public school any longer.

What school in particular? Conner? Kept winning?

 

Hard to match teams in the past when there was only 2 high schools. Especially when there was only enough Conner kids to fill one team per division and there was enough Boone kids to fill 5 teams.

 

 

 

 

They did not have an open draft in the late 70's and 80's. Kids going to Conner were not in the draft because the league felt that asking the kids from Burlington, Hebron, and Petersburg to drive to Florence was to much. The 5 other teams in the divisions went to Boone. The 5 other teams in the league had to draft players as they move up. So the Burlington teams Bearcats, Bobcats, and Wildcats players would move up as a group while the other teams players were moved around because of the draft. The total open draft began about 1990.

First off, if Ryle did not have turf there would be no discussion of any public use of their field because of the condition it would be in..look around at all of the grass fields in NKY this year. Secondly, a HS allowing outside organizations to use their feild is a privilege, not a right. If Conner or Boone allows the BCPFL to use their field, thats their own fault. But I do agree with your earlier statement, the draft and parents interfering with youth football. They should take a strong look into changing that format to accomodate the High Schools in Boone County, not the PeeWee Coaches/Teams.

What should be done is the BOE starting middle school football. The league has offered to donate the necessary equipment to start the teams but the answer has been NO. Heck the coaches offered to coach the teams still as volunteers but still the same answer.

 

Why should the league accommodate the high schools? It would be different if their was any type of support from the high schools.The high schools want players but they have zero involvement and they like it that way.

Having concession at the park would be a nightmare. Some one would have to haul all the products for sale in a truck then set it up. Concession are a major source of revenue for the league.

 

They've got 14 games going on every weekend. You've got a growing Hebron and Union area. The amount of kids participating in the league has to be growing. Do you increase the number of kids on the teams, or do you add another team? Plus, you're cramming 14 games into 2 days on 1 field. How often do the later games start on time? I've been to games were the last game of the day is 1 to 2 hours late because of injuries in the earlier games.

 

As for concession at the park, it's easy. Get a tent, some coolers or barrels, a grill, and a couple tables and you're set. Yes, some volunteers have to haul this stuff around every weekend, but it's really not a big deal. I've seen it done over in Cincy without any issues.

 

 

How many parks are equiped for football? With the lights, PA system, scoreboard ect.? The pewee field is where they want to be. The built the Napier building, newer concession stand, they will get turf someday... there just trying to have a public out cry for help now.

Of the fields I've been to that I can remember, only one has a storage shed with a little pressbox on top of it with a PA system. That field also has a scoreboard that was given to them by Elder years ago. Other fields have one of those cheap digital scoreboards tied to a fence, or a manual scoreboard with a digital clock. Only one other field had a PA system with pressbox, and it was made of some scaffolding and a bull horn that was setup for each game. Two places had concession stands, and they were the actual concession stands for the complex. The others just setup tents, and it works fine. Each team has their home field, and their team is responsible for gathering volunteers to work the games.

I would say almost every game starts on time because they are scheduled 1 hour and 45 minutes for each game. They usually last 1:20 to 1:30.

 

How would multiple fields solve the problem of games starting late because of an injury or some other unforeseen problem. Unless you spaced the games 2 hours apart. So then you would have volunteers their that much longer, not to mention the refs waiting around in between games. Also it is hard enough to get referees to do games. Imagine how hard it would be to do if their are multiple games at the same time? Also, the parks dept does not allow football teams on their practice fields on the weekends because they are for soccer.

 

The fields you are describing sound like the ones in the Catholic school league, like St Doms. Those are supported by the schools the schools pay for the upkeep of everything. BCPWFL is self funded so they need the concession and parking money to survive.

 

If you have some creative ways to generate the same amount of revenue to keep the league financial stable the boosters meet on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at the football field, you are more than welcome.

In BC, kids may play on several different teams on their way to HS; different coaches, different teammates every year. Ideally, BC would have teams at Gray, Ockerman, Camp Ernst, RA, and Conner. This would help the HS's set up systems such as Highlands.

Look at it this way. There either gonna tear up the pewee grass or the parks grass by week 5.
