November 16, 200916 yr One of the main things about a Bowl bid is the extra practice. To have a month or so to not only get ready for the bowl, but getting quality reps for the younger guys. This gets you ready for Spring ball and sets up the depth chart going in to it. There is nothing like that extra work over schools that do not get it. JMO. :thumb: This is the most important thing for UK, regardless which lower tier bowl they qualify for.
November 16, 200916 yr Author I'll take a bowl game any year. Less we forget how many years UK was in no bowl.
November 16, 200916 yr I'll take a bowl game any year. Less we forget how many years UK was in no bowl. I will never, ever complain about the Cats making a bowl game. After spending 80% of my life watching the team go 2-9 or 3-8, I am ecstatic to have some success. That being said, however, that Mississippi State loss still causes me plenty of pain.
November 16, 200916 yr Valid point, but if you had to have 51% winning percentage in your conference how many teams would qualify for a bowl? These teams would miss out as of now! The below teams knocked out would eliminate 11 bowl games and lost a TON of money! SEC: Auburn Arkansas Ole Miss South Carolina Georgia (Bubble to stay above 50%) TN Big 12: Iowa State Missouri Texas Tech Texas A&M Kansas State(Bubble to stay above 50%) Big East: USF Rutgers ACC: Florida State North Carolina Duke(1 win to be eligible) Big 10: Minnesota Northwestern (Bubble) Michigan State (Bubble) Pac 10: USC Cal UCLA Just wanted to point out that USF has not qualified for a bowl bid, yet. They have to win one of their last 3 to do so. (UofL, Miami, UConn) They need 7 wins, not 6, because they have 2 FCS teams on their schedule. Only one applies toward bowl qualification. FIU buying out their contract in March of last year, after season tickets went on sale, left USF holding the bag. No FBS school would schedule the Bulls at that late date, especially here in Tampa (including UK). So, to keep from screwing the season ticket holders out of a home game, they had already paid for, the school scheduled another FCS team, Charleston Southern. We lost Matt Grothe in a completely meaningless game.

Six wins is six wins and a extra month of practice for Newton, Cobb, Locke, King, Mathews and so forth.

November 16, 200916 yr If UK goes 8-4 (which I think is a longshot due to the UT game). They should go to Tampa. The top non-BCS (LSU) usually goes to Orlando and the cotton usually takes a West team and Outback usually takes a East team. I think SC will lose to Clemson to sputter (agian) to a 6-6 finish. UK would then have wins over UT and UGA and should go to the Outback. Ole Miss probably would go to Cotton. I think Auburn will stumble down the strectch losing to Bama.
November 16, 200916 yr While I would like to see the minimum wins be at 7 with a 12 game schedule, I also love the idea of another game and more practice time for the younger guys. But with the number of bowls now, you about have to have a 6 win minimum to fill them all. However, IF UK could win out, ... they would be 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the SEC which is MUCH better than anyone predicted for this season. I thought they would win 6 games this season, and now they have. But I thought we would lose to Auburn and beat Miss St. Those are the 2 games I missed. I like their chances to beat either UGA or UT and get to 7 wins. And while there are no guarantees at 6 wins, UK fans do travel and it is all about the mula and the Cats fans bring it.

Players and coaches didn't show up. Fortunately it's not like that every week.
November 16, 200916 yr In the Brooks era UK has usually laid 1 egg per year. MSU was that egg this year. Players and coaches didn't show up. Fortunately it's not like that every week. Very true. And they have had plenty of opportunities to blow MANY games, but come thru more often than not.
November 16, 200916 yr Author Very true. And they have had plenty of opportunities to blow MANY games, but come thru more often than not. That is very true as well. I think Coach Brooks is a good coach. Along with the rest of the staff. I really respect Steve Brown and Randy Sanders. I hope they stay when Joker takes over. With each of the past few seasons Kentucky has done some good things and beat teams they weren't suppose to on paper. Then lose to a team they are suppose to beat. MSU twice 2007/2009 and Vanderbilt 2008. I really hope coaches Brooks comes back next season because it's been nice to attend bowls and actually watch them win those games. Five years ago I didn't know if I'd ever see a UK victory in a bowl game. Now I have watched three in a row. Now I am wondering if UK will beat UT in my life time. Maybe that question can be answered this year as well.
