It was covered up by an abundance of talent

 

Central has had a ton of talent over the last 6 -8 years. Guys have went to Michigan,Marshall,and Louisville and I believe one of those guys is playing in the NFL before Scroggins stafff got there. It wasn't until Scroggins got there that Central turned the corner. IMO you have to coach talent just as hard as you do no talent.

Guys Scoggins is not a bad coach but in last years state title game he had 9 kids on the field 6-7 times. Alot of his scores even in that game were just a player making a play. But getting talent out is a big skill that he has. Lets not forget that realignment has benefited central as well.

 

Western Hills staff will need to spread the ball around to beat central, this is not their strong point, the wins they have had it has usually been from one player (curry or wright) having a big night.

As Knute indicated, Western Hills has more speed than being given credit for. They can not match Central's speed overall (no 3A teams can), but Hills' size and quickness on the lines help with overall speed difference. Hills' LBs have a good mix to stop Central's running game. Wright has very good speed and size to play outside, Pugh is undersized at LB but can match some of Central's speed on the sweep, while Slone has excellent size to be a run stopper in the middle and is like having a coach on the field - and all tackle very well when they get to a play. Having a 6'6" and 245 lbs safety with speed will also help! Having the run/pass option with Wright and Curry could give Central more trouble than many think. If Western Hills gets a few stops early on defense, will give them more confidence and Central will be in for a fight.

I for once am in agreement with Ol Knute. I think Western Hills has a better coaching staff and I think the Hills' linebackers will be a big part of the game. The talent that Central has and has had can cover up a lot of coaching deficiences.

 

Guys, I have known Coach Miller for a long time and totally respect his coaching abilities. But to make this statement towards Coach Scroggins staff after what they have accomplished makes no sense what so ever. :ohbrother:

Coaching at Frankfort we always heard with that speed and that talent you should win. Here's a heads up not everyone can coach and be succesfull at schools like that. Heck until Foley got to Frankfort they had two 5-5 seasons under coach Thacker and he followed 3 others that never had winning seasons. It's been my experience that kids with all that talent can be difficult to coach, between I'm that good type of attitude to just being head cases. So those that have never coached in those situations have no idea how difficult it can be just to get kids out and then keep them eligble is another story.

I have all the State games on DVD from last season. This statement has got me watching the game over again. Just finished, and I could not count one time that there were 9 players on the field. Either on offense, defense, or special teams. You need to watch the film and count before you make statements on this board that are false.

As far as players making plays. Is that not what you ask your players to do every time they take the field. A Coach calls the plays and you hope that everyone does their job, and the ball carrier runs hard. The only one play of last years State game that you can say was not called and players making something happen was: when the QB, (KING) ran right and reversed field and scored on the left side.

I hate when we get on here and bash high school coaches. Guys that we already know do not get paid for the time they put in. Guys that spend more time at the high school with other peoples kids and less time with their own. Guys that are just coaches, dads, teachers, mentors, friends, and etc.

I hope both teams play hard and the best team wins friday night.

I think Scroggins is a good coach, and has and will continue to be in the title game or in the hunt, just not ready to put him up on that legend status quite yet. Good luck to both teams.

Central dominated Breathitt in second half, I guess that is poor coaching! As a matter of fact they dominated every opponent in the second half in the playoffs, I think that is a coaching staff doing a great job of adjusting at half. Not many staff's as good as Central's, one of the best in the STATE!

This game will not be close. Central 41-14.

Alvis Johnson comes to mind for one

I don't think there is any way to deny the coaching ability of a two time state champ.I am sure there have been coaches with D-1 caliber players year after year who have never won a state championship.
