Time for the Draft?

Featured Replies

I agree with you. You are trying to make something of your life. Don't stop that. Do you know of any one your age that isn't doing the right thing? How bout someone that is a father but can't pay child support? How about drugs and alcohol ? Structure and discipline could go along ways in making them a productive member of society.

True, that is a choice though. Maybe those in that situation can be offered Military service as a means to repay society rather than prison or jail time? Could/would be a win-win IMO.

You are thinking like an old man  If they fall in those categories its not offered its mandatory. Sure would be a lot cheaper on the governments that foot the bill for those that are getting free clothes, food, & bedding while incarcerated.

How many folks in the USA fall in that category?

I think the redployment thing works both ways. While it can and does cause a lot of stress they have also had experience in those countries and the second deployment should be easier than the first. I have a son over there right now.

I thank your son for his service to this country.

As someone who has a son that is in the Army, I for one wouldn't want just anyone to be drafted to go and watch his back or protect our country. It takes a special person to go into the service and master the type of training these young men and women go through. I want a person that wants to be there and not someone who has been forced to go.

Instead of a draft lets move to fighting one war instead of 2. Also lets get busy and handle the business and get out. These politics being play by the past 2 Administrations is a bunch of crap. Put me in Charge and this thing would be over in 45 minutes.

See the US Gov't plays by rules. There are no rules in Fighting. To many men and women are losing their lives, because the Gov't is worried about following rules. Lets win and get home.

As a college student, I dare them to try to draft me. I'm not against being at war, but absolutely no one will tell me that I have to go.

Does being a college student make your soul more important than on that's not in college? You dare your country to demand your help when in need? Are you saying jail would be better than serving your country? If there's a draft where your number is called, and you don't go, you can split to a foreign country or you may go to jail my friend.

Now we're getting to the reason I started this thread.

Too many of us are OK with the country being at war as long as its with "other people's kids." We'd find out quickly how committed we really are as a country should the draft come about.

If you want this war to end quickly and have our troops home institute the draft.

If they wanted the war to end quickly then they shouldn't have started it. With your theory we should go ahead and mandate service after high school for 2 years or so like other countries do.

Penal units would be a disaster, worse than drafted soldiers.

???

Personally, I don't see us at the point where we need to bring back the draft. Just my opinion.

As far as the draft is concerned. The majority of elected officials will not let that happen. As for the part with other folks kids, I don't see it that way. There is ample amount of young folks who need a job, correction, motivation whatever you want to call it. They would not have to be drafted but be required to serve if they have not met certain criteria at a certain point in there life.

I am not a big fan of war, but we are the greatest country in the world and certain situations need our involvement.

No, I'd advise anyone to not go along with the draft whether they are in college or not. It's not that I wouldn't go to war, it's the principle of being drafted.

???

Its kinda like the Michael Moore concept what your saying... congressman and rich peoples kids aren't over in Iraq fighting for the most part. Your saying at least the way I take it... that more people need to face the burden of war.
