I guess that proves everyone CAN do it then. So no sour grapes or advantages to the Yankees. Just ownership that's willing to pay for a winner. Difference is that with their market they have the opportunity to do it more frequently.

 

If anyone should be complaining, it's Mets and Cubs fans. #2 and 3 payrolls and didn't sniff the post-season.

They had a payroll ranked in the 20's (21st I do believe).

They actually did it both ways. In '97 they added like $95 mil for 6 free agents and won it all. However, in '03 you are correct. Yankees had a payroll either just over or just under $100 mil more than the Marlins.

Didn't realize that Miami was a small market. Just because they don't draw well doesn't mean that are a small market. You and I both know that Wayne had the deep pockets.

They may have all retired as Yanks, but I believe Bernie is the only want that came up as a Yankee.

First time ever I didn't watch a single second of the World Series. I can't stand the Yankees and I hate the way MLB's salary system works. I hope more and more people turn away from MLB until they truly give every team a chance to legitimately compete.

The Yankees won the World Series. Fair and freakin' square. Sure, they paid players more than anyone else can, but so what! Those are the rules. I don't see why everyone sees this as a Yankees problem more than a problem with Major League Baseball.

By "a while back" I'm pretty sure he meant in 2003. I was just pointing out that obviously you hadn't considered that year or just picked a year that was convenient for your argument. Since in no way, shape, or form did the Marlins "buy" a World Series in 2003.
