Come on papa. We make up the criteria as we go along in these things. Someone fires a name up there that we don't like, we simply adapt the criteria accordingly.:lol:

:thumb: I like this list. Mayo is up there as well obviously. I also like the Donta Smith of Oldham reference, anyone know what he's doing now? He was in the NBA for a few years wasn't he?

 

Donta Smith, as pretty much everyone knows, played JUCO, then withdrew his commitment to play at U of L, and signed with an agent as the #1-ranked JUCO player in the country.

 

He was drafted by Atlanta, but never played much, and was assigned to their Arkansas Rimrocker NBA developmental team. He played in Bulgaria two years ago, and this past season played on the South Dragons team in Australia, which won the title. Smith was the MVP of the championship.

 

(Ironic, since Donta Smith played for Oldham County - and the Colonels' intra-county rivals are - you guessed it - the SOUTH Oldham DRAGONS! :ohbrother:)

 

Of all the players I've seen this decade, Smith was definitely in the top 10.

Hicks didn't play in Sweet 16 as a senior. The Cardinals got beat by Grant County in the District that year. Grant was lead by Tyler Jones, who Billy Hicks said was one of the best shooters he has ever seen as the high school level. Jones went on to play at Miami of Oh and then Georgetown.

Grant defeated Scott County in the 1st round of the 32nd District Tournament in 2003, Tyler Hicks was a Junior. In 2004, Hick's Senior season, Scott County advanced to the semifinals of the Sweet Sixteen before falling to Mason County in OT.

No way do I take Mayo as a freshman over Lofton as a Junior or Senior. People have a hard time separating Mayo the NBA star from Mayo the Rose Hill star. Same with Rondo. As a high school athlete, Chris Lofton has been the best we've had to offer this decade IMO. And I don't believe there's any player in recent memory--maybe ever?--to hit as many big shots as Lofton.

Played against the kid in 8th grade and he could dunk. :scared:
