Will be a tought game for the Cats, but being at home gives them the edge, plus i think their defense is better than most people are giving them credit for. Tomcats pull away in the 4th quarter.

The defense should be getting alot of credit. They only give up 10.7 ppg. Not bad. Plus they have only let the other team score in double figures 4 times this season. And one of those was only 12 points. Nobody has put up 30 points on them in the regular season. They have played some good teams this year. Belfry, Ironton, Johnson Central and Waverly, Oh who has one of the top rated QB's in the state. I think the Tomcats will find away to pull this one out.

Well, I stayed out as long as I could but I'm here now!:lol: I am a NEKY boy who has the unique turn to this thread. My high school coach left and ended his career in NKY (Newport) and my best friend has coached on the Beechwood staff and been the head coach at Simon Kenton before taking over at Lloyd Memorial. I have attended and cheered at many NKY games and long ago, played against CovCath. While it is true, Ashland is at home and probably favored (I picked them, too), Dixie will bring a different "style" into Putnam and they remember what happened last year. I am not saying that Dixie will win but people shouldn't look at their 4-6 record and decide who will win this game. I recall the 2006 1A Regional Championship game at Raceland when 7-5 Neport Central Catholic rolled into the "favored" 11-1 Rams. Needless to say, NCC rolled over us in the second half. Many times it has been opined on this site and others about the lack of championships at Raceland and we always said it was because we couldn't get past game 1 and less often game 2 of the playoffs because we were paired against the NKY district. I really don't think many people listened to that excuse until Ashland was paired against the mighty HHS district. Now, people atleast listen to our predicament. Ashland is hands down the best team in NEKY (Johnson Central, in my opinion is NOT NEKY). I just think they are better than a round 1 or 2 exit, however, if they are fortunate enough to beat Dixie, they get to travel to Fort Thomas.

Without getting into each specific game that Ashland has played this season there is an aside to the 10.7 ppg stat. That percentage would certainly be down in the single digit range if Ashland had left its starters in the game. At NEAR the start of an awful lot of the 4th quarters this year Coach Hart subbed freely to allow next years' players to get the experience they will need to make the transition as smooth as possible for next season. As a matter of fact some of the TD's oppenents logged against this team were put up on the board while the JV or the freshman team was playing. Not all the time but SOME of the time it was against the other teams' starters or their starting backfield that these occurred. In at least 3 games there was a goose egg on the board when Ashland subbed.

When you get to this point in the season, you are what you have shown. If they were better, they would have shown it by now. I know what you are getting at ... they have talent and there is a game in the team somewhere that will equal the talent and expectations. I really thought Dixie was going to have a great season. Instead, they have just had an average year IMO. If Dixie puts together that game everyone thought they would "show" us all season, then they can definitely win this game and maybe by more than one TD. But they haven't "shown" it all year so I wouldn't be counting on it now. Sometimes teams just have to face up to who they really are and that it isn't "who we thought they were". I would love to see Dixie put together that game but I see nothing that would cause me to think it will suddenly happen this week.

 

This has to be one of the best posts on this thread. Leaviing all the hope so's and cheerleading out , which is why I also appreciate the posts that RAM and his associates make, I must say you make a pretty good argument. As far as all this strength of schedule talk goes, Ashland's schedule was certainly not weak. Go ahead and give the EDGE to Dixie Heights, on strength of sched. but, to hang your hat this to support an argument that DH has the upper hand in this game is a little weak IMO.

Well, if we want to get technical about it, the brain remembers in three's. We are more likely to remember things if they are grouped into sections of three. How many times have you tried to remember four things and could only think of three and could not remember the fourth? It's no accident. It's the way the human brain works. Good educators will break things down into three's to help their students remember them.

Thanks! I saw your post. Yahoo Maps has me pretty much starting out in Ohio. It doesn't even have me coming down AA. Therefore, when you posted 37 followed by 39, I wasn't sure if 39 meant to just start in Ohio like Yahoo Maps gives, or come down AA then go into Ohio (post 37).

 

Follow Graybeard's advise, I travel from NKY to Ashland all the time for business, that's definately the best way to go. Just be careful about speeding on the AA. You will get a ticket.

I don't know about that. We have 1A and 2A schools that can beat, or hang with, almost anyone else in NKY. We essentially have a 3A school that beats everybody. I don't think size really matters in NKY either. I think it just might appear that way to some outsiders since there are so many schools in a small area.

Beechwood and NCC have shown they can play with the larger schools over the years.

Ashland's defense will win this game. Ashland has a very solid defense that has been proven to be equally good against the run as the pass. Very fast defense.

 

As for the strength of schedule, I would give that to Dixie, but people just don't understand the teams that Ashland has won against. This is one area in North-Eastern Kentucky where size doesn't matter. I would say in our area there is less disparity between the classes then anywhere else in the state. But, I don't expect most of the Northern Kentucky people to understand that.
