Top 5 NBA point guards of all time

Featured Replies

Oscar would not be happy to be on any list with Cousy but if he must then he would be glad to be listed ahead of him.

The purpose of playing is to win the game (ask Herm Edwards). And no one is a bigger winner than Magic Johnson. There was a lot of years when Oscar Robertson's teams were mediocre at best and when he won a championship he wasn't the best player on his team (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was). Now there is no denying his unbelieveable talent, but The fact is Magic Johnson is the man, and is #1 IMO.

Ummmmmm Bob Cousy?

Was Jerry West a point guard ?

One of the NBA's all-time greats in my opinion.

He was more of a combination guard. He shared the point guard position will Gail Goodrich during those dominant Laker seasons.

I meant it more figuratively I guess, but technically Cousy won more titles. If I am not mistaken he won 6 titles and Johnson won 5 and made it to the finals 5 more times (correct me if I'm wrong, but thats what I figure out on Johnson off the top of my head).

If I had to build my team around a point guard, I take Stockton 1st. Hard nose distributer and great defensive player.

If I'm going to build around a PG, I want one that can take a game over, ala Magic Johson, Thomas, or the BIG O (eventually CP and Derron Williams). However, if I want a PG to run a team, I would like to have Magic or Stockton.

Oscar wouldnt' be happy that there is even a TOP 5 list, or that the sun comes up before he wakes up, or for just about any reason.

I like Nash but Paul is already better imo. If anyone besides Paul or Williams in the NBA has a chance besides these two imo its Lebron, and I am not even an Lebron fan. I guess Lebron is kinda in the Jerry West or foward category, but put a Kareem, a young Shaw and/or a dominate scoring big man like those down low and he becomes a Magic like player.

I think Deron Williams often gets overlooked when discussing current NBA PG's. His numbers are very similar to Paul's.

Rondo over Nash? And you don't even include Tony Parker?

What is up with Cousy's career FG % of .375? That is unbelievably low compared to Magic's .520 and Big O's .485. Even Allen Iverson has a higher percentage at .425. Magic and Oscar's career stats are incredible to look at.
