I saw him get taken out of the game during one series and he was so upset about being taken out he literally took off his helmet and beat himself in the head with it! Ouch! When he went back in, he was all business! He also took a couple of hard hits when running the ball and bounced back up every time ready to take another shot.

WOW!!! Went to bed last night before checking BGP. What do they say "Miss a day, miss a lot". In this case miss 10 hours. Well from what I saw,

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

So with that, great game by both teams. Ryle played their best. Look for them to have a nice run in the playoffs. Birds the same.

Okay, enough has been said about the Ryle coach, hasn't it? Let's move back to discussing the game.

 

I was talking after the game to a friend of mine who has a son on the Ryle team. We both agreed that this game went about the way we thought it would.

 

Nice hard played game. Good "warm up" for the playoffs for both teams.

 

Hempel did have some trouble passing the ball due to the weather and Highlands D. He ran the ball well in the second half and it seemed to open up Ryle's O some. I thought Ryle played a well, hard hitting game.

 

Birds executed well on O at times and not so good at other times. I haven't seen the tape yet to determine why. As always, the Birds blocked the counter well and Tyler Fennell picked up huge yards. The young man really ran the ball extremely well. I think he picked up over 200 yds rushing. Several really nice catches by Drennen, Welz and Buten. Very nice down field blocking by the WRs also. That impressed me more than the catches. Good blocking by the WRs is the difference between a 7 yd gain and a 50 yd gain or a touchdown.

 

Birds D looked fantastic, particularly in the first half. D linemen again used their quickness to repeatedly get off blocks and make tackles. Nice game by the lbers also. Very nice game by the secondary. Bruns did every thing he could to defend the TD pass to Nichols, but with his and the placement of the ball by Hempel, there simply was nothing that could be done. According to Ryan Ernst, last night was the first game this year that Elliot was held to less than 100 yds rushing. Fantastic job!

 

Time to move on to Montgomery County. Can't afford to take any one lightly at this point. We accomplished what we wanted to during the regular season; now it's time to do the same with the playoffs. Go Birds.

Just looked at the Ryle Coaches page online, it was not the Preacher. Please Note that I did not point that gentleman out in my earlier post.

 

I believe the coach is more of a motivator than anything else. Although I do not agree with what he said, his job is to keep the kids up and ready to play. I talked to Coach Warner (classly guy) after the game and he had many positive things to say about the game. You can tell by talking to him he enjoyed the competition and looked at this game as a building block for where he wants his program to be. Good luck Ryle and Coach Warner with your playoff run!!!

I think some of that wildman created a fieldgoal right before halftime. It was going to be 4th down and the unsportsman penalty gave the Birds the ball in Ryle territory. The kid definitly plays with intensity but sometimes you have to know when to control it. He is going to be a very good football player in the next two years.

I was impressed with Ryle CB Carney. Kid has a cast on his arm, but broke up quite a few passes and was in on a ton of tackles. Showed a ton of speed when he ran crossfield to catch Highland's back down the sideline. Appaently was having a very strong year as their punt returner before his injury.

 

Easily one of the top corners in NKY. Great tackler even with a cast. Very smart kid. He will be missed next year by Ryle.

For all kids who aren't yet starters but are looking for motivation look no further than young Mr Towles. Read in the paper this morning that he came into the summer as the 4th string qb. He's now starting in place of the injured #1. I'm guessing the combo of hard work and taking advantage of opportunities got him to his new spot.

 

Congrats to him. I enjoy kids earning their spot.

You had both Collinsworth and Bardo the first game and it didn't amount to an additional 14 points (score was 38-14). Maybe it would have, then again maybe Collinsworth has a bad night and fumbles a couple of times. No way to really know. It was fun playing HHS twice. Nothing like playing the best to see where you really stand.

 

Okay use this one. You put Hempel in the backfield with a bad throwing arm and is limted to playing time as of right now. Take Elliott and put a cast on him and sit him on the sidelines.....
