Thanks :thumb:

Does anyone have any info on Mitch McKenzie is there anyway he could get some varsity playing time this year?

I dont remember St. Pius being very strong at all last season. I do remember Ward who is a streaky shooter but not remembering the Murphy boy. Has he dramatically improved his game or something?

Im looking forward to the game between the Birds and the Colonels. I see several names on CovCath's roster who played AAU ball for the Old Spice/Red Zone and the Flash. I am also assuming they have some St. Joe Crescent kids. Highlands has 6 kids with a ton of AAU experience as well. Witte,McCoy,Turner,Christian all have played for the NKY Warriors over past 4 years and they have made some nice runs in the State Tourney. Hinkel has played with the Shining Stars the past couple years and Nick True the 6'4 8th grader was a starter on this past summer's Tar Heel team that got a Top 10 finish in the National Tourney.

Jenkins, Shumate, Pauly and Bir all played for the N KY Flash AAU team. The Flash finished in the final four of the state AAU tournament the last two years (beating Lexington Catholic in the quarterfinals to get there last year). And....you know that if they played for Mark Ogle, they certainly know how to play aggressive man to man defense.

The CovCath frosh first game of the season is Dec 1st @ CovCath vs LexCath.

Might be a gruge match in the making!

This thread has gone on way too long without talking about Nick Fredrick. He'll go down as one of the best point guards in CovCath history.

No doubt he is good. Only time will tell.

I knew a PT guard from CovCath who led CovCath to a state final and to the sweet sixteen in his senior year before losing out to the State Champion Glasgow.

The guy wore #13 and his name, Jimmy Cooper. If young Mr. Fredrick matches up to Jim, then he will be a great one!

That's a pretty bold statement to make about a young man who has never even worn a Covington Catholic jersey yet.

I've heard stories about Jimmy Cooper & been told that he was a magician with the ball in his hands.

You heard right CC! :notworthy:

Heck teams/players knew it was coming (his ball behind their head move) and he still got away with it game after game after game! He indeed was magic with the ball in his hands and Jimmy could shoot free throws all day long without missing!

Hopefully he grows but he definitely has game and is hard to defend because he can shoot the 3 and go around you if you come out. Putting a big physical guard on him has always been the recipe for stopping him in the past when my son's AAU team has played him. He is a dynamite player though and I know his Dad was a great player at Notre Dame back in the day.

Is this the same Jim Cooper that coached in NKY for a while? The father of Holly Spritzky?

Yes!

That's why I said "one" of the best. I obviously am no expert on all CovCath point guards, but I know a ball handler, assist guy, and shooter when I see one. Just wait until he catches up with his class. I don't know why some of us develop so late, but when we do, look out. :thumb:

Funny you mention that. I've never laid eyes upon the kid so I have no first hand knowledge. However, someone in the know told a friend of mine that his handle is Nesto-good right now.
