October 20, 200917 yr My mid season front runners for Coach of the year. Any others? 1. Kirk Ferentz - Iowa 1a. Brian Kelly - UC 2. Randy Shannon - UM 2b. Paul Johnson - GaTech
October 20, 200917 yr Right now the winner would probably be Ferentz, followed by Kelly. I'd vote Randy Shannon or Rich Rod over Kelly though. UC is having success but they were very good last year as well. Miami and Michigan weren't great last year, but those two have the programs turned around. How about Chip Kelly if Oregon wins out? With everything that went do during and after the Boise game, winning out and taking the Pac-10 Championship would be a heck of an accomplishment.

I'd go with BK at this point though.
October 21, 200917 yr ^^ I just think the WOW factor hasn't been there for Kelly, at least in my eyes. I thought they would probably be the best team in the Big East. He's done a great job, I just think a few others have been more shocking. I know that doesn't make sense.
October 21, 200917 yr My vote has to be BK. I also like Randy Shannon that man has been through more in his life than I could even imagine. And has turned that Miami team around from last season. And of course my biased oppinion for Rich Rod. Michigan only won 3 games last season. They have turned things around and are very competitive this season. Having only last two games and both were by just a few points, one bieng in OT.
October 21, 200917 yr Hands down Brian Kelley. Why is it hands down? What have they done that they weren't supposed to do?
October 21, 200917 yr In my eyes it's not that the team has done what they are supposed to. It's what he does to put his team in the position to win in Every situation. Just like last week when they lost their hiesman canidate QB due to an injury in what was supposed to be their toughest game this season. Coach Kelly flipped the switch on the offensive gameplan and his team responded. I don't think alot of college coaches could've done that. Maybe the backup is just that good I'm not sure. But either way he made all the right calls to get his team the win.
October 21, 200917 yr Randy Shannon, he has brought the U back. Take away that terrible weather rain game and they are in the national title hunt.
October 21, 200917 yr Nick Saban. He has proven that he has been able to resurrect the deep south's oldest power. I know a lot of people won't agree with this because they were a top 10 team coming in, but I am going to say that it is Nick because he has proven that last year wasn't a one time deal.
October 21, 200917 yr ^^I agree with Black here, but to be honest I'd put Kelly at #1/Saban/Peterson/Johnson/...remember its a "Midseason" question.
October 21, 200917 yr What has Kelly done that separates him from the likes of Meyer, Saban, etc.? UC is doing what they were supposed to do, just like Florida, Bama, Texas, etc.
October 21, 200917 yr An added argument for Kelly is that UC lost 10 starters on defense and an all-american punter. In the preseason rankings, they were picked 3rd or 4th in their conference.
