I'm well aware that both Cov Cath and Dixie were coming into the Highlands game off of games against Scott. My point was really the fact that Dixie played a Highlands team that was recuperating from their game the previous week gainst St. X, and Cov Cath played a Highlands team that had just had a week off. If I'm not mistaken, Highlands schedules their bye week every year the week before the Cov Cath game.

I was curious as to whether that was true so I looked it up and that is not the case. Highlands did have byes before the Cov. Cath game in 2003 and 2004, but this was the first year their bye has come the week preceeding the Cov. Cath game since then.

 

I am sure Highalnds would prefer to put the bye the week before their biggest regular season district game each year, but with the trouble they have scheduling games, I doubt that can be a primary driver in their schedule.

My point is if Dixie could muster up nearly 400 yards against Highlands D you would think they might be able to get a few yards against Cov. Cath's (unless they are better than Highlands D)

Dixie wins this one for a couple of reasons imo. 1) The Red Colonels play much more physical than The Blue Colonels and 2) They are just a better football team than CovCath. But then again NKY HS teams are just down right unpredictiable when one tries to make matchup comparisions against HHS. My guess is its because everybody brings their "A" games against the Birds. And based on "A" games Dixie is hands down a better football program based on those silly comparisons that everyone makes. Who Knows.

Dixie 42, Cov Cath 31 - Dixie just seems more tenacious, and probably a bit hungrier after a difficult season so far. Time for them to win a big one on their home turf. I do think their passing game is better as well - IMO...

Dixie's defense has only struggled 4 times this year, Highlands, Ryle, Simon Kenton, and Conner. I believe quite a few teams defenses have stuggled against those team. I hardly put Cov Cath's offense in those teams catagory.

Maybe not, but I personally put it above Dixie's defense. Plus you add the fact that they're going to be fired up coming from the loss to Highlands, and then combined with the fact that Coach Wirth and Coach Ray are working hard to re-assert the Cov Cath tradition of beating Dixie (Cov Cath has won around 30 of the last 35 games against Dixie), I see Cov Cath coming away with the win late in the game.

This is going to be an interesting matchup. Dixie's defense is not near as quick as Highlands up front or at the linebacker positions and I don't think will be as able to put near as much pressure on Erpenbeck or will be as effective stopping Erpenbeck's scrambling. So I expect big things out of CovCath's O in this game.

 

However, Wilson is the complete package at QB for Dixie. I think he runs as well as Erpenbeck and throws much better. I think Dixie's O is also going to score a lot of points.

 

Thus, I agree with Clyde in thinking the game will be one by the team with the O that outdoes the other. Not big in the prediction business, but it won't surprise me one bit if Dixie wins because from my observation of both teams, I think Dixie has the better and more complete offense. Plus the game is at Dixie, right?

 

Now if Dixie kicks to Ritter, fails to adequately cover the kick offs and Ritter racks up big return yards, then such may be enough to overcome Dixie's stronger O and home field advantage.

Is CovCath really that soft? I find it hard to believe that Dixie is the more physical team. :idunno:

 

This game will put a lot of points on the scoreboard. Dixie will struggle to stop CCH. They've tackled poorly all year, and they always struggle with a running threat at the QB position. Especially when that running threat has some good skill players around him. And on the same note, based on everything I've read, CCH will probably struggle to contain Dixie too.
