Cov Cath wins this one 28-14.

COLONELS WEAR BLUE - Guess I was comparing the last 5 games CCH played versus Dixie. CCH played Campbell CO, Beechwood, NCC, Scott, then Highlands....Dixie played Holmes, Highlands, Scott, Ryle, Conner - just seemed like Dixie will be more prepared. PLUS, Dixie played Simon Kenton, one of the best teams in KY and hung in there.

1) First off, I'm not so sure I'd call losing by 19 "hanging in there".

 

2) Let's look at their overall schedules thus far instead of just your last 5 games reference:

Dixie beat New Cath 19-7

Cov Cath beat New Cath 28-14

Dixie beat Beechwood 47-7

Cov Cath beat Beechwood 43-14

Dixie lost to Ryle 28-42

Cov Cath lost to Ryle 14-34

Dixie lost to Highlands 9-52

Cov Cath lost to Highlands 7-36

Dixe beat Scott 44-0

Cov Cath beat Scott 56-14

Other than that, Dixie has lost good teams at Conner 20-46 and Simon Kenton 28-49, and they beat a mediocre-at-best Holmes team 21-12. Cov Cath lost in very competitive games to Cincinnati LaSalle 35-44 and Lex Cath 17-23. They also beat a fairly mediocre team at Campbell County 33-14.

 

3) Dixie has scored 216 points and allowed 215. Cov Cath has scored 233 points and allowed 193.

 

 

Somebody tell me if I'm wrong, but looking at their schedules, the level of difficulty it pretty darn similar. Dixie came into the season touted as NKY's number 3 or 4 team if I'm not mistaken, whereas Cov Cath was lucky to be ranked in the top ten. Cov Cath has shown improvement in most aspects week after week, working their way up in rankings. I can't say quite as much for Dixie.

 

I give Dixie the benefit of the doubt and say it will be a "close one", but I think based on the new direction of Cov Cath's program combined with the overall record of this matchup, that Cov Cath will pull it out. Dixie will win by "14 (at least)" ? Don't see it happening.

On the other hand it's quite clear Cov Cath still has some work to do. Dixie coming off the bye week should be very capable of winning by 14+.

I would wager to guess that during the Scott practice week, there was very little (if any) practice against Scott's game plan, and an awful lot of getting ready for Highlands. Highlands had just come off of a game against St. X. Dixie had been looking to the Highlands game all year, whereas Highlands was trying to recoup from their big rumble the week before, pull off a successful performance with their newly starting sophomore backup, and get through to their bye week so they could prepare for their rivalry game against Cov Cath.

 

It's also probably worth mentioning that Cov Cath's offense came out looking pretty poor (to say the least) against Highlands. Their offense IS better than that. Also, all things considered, Cov Cath's defense gave a good look against Highlands last week. I think the offense for the Blue Colonels will come in with a chip on its shoulder and look to prove a point, and Dixie is going to have a challenge on their hands against a defense that is finally starting to prove to themselves that they have what it takes to get it done.

Both teams' D are going to struggle against the offense. Just like last year.

Here is a prediction I guarantee - the loser of this game will be extremely disappointed, perhaps to the point of disgust ... much more so than the normal post loss disappointment.

Considering the natural talent (or lack thereof) on Cov Cath's team..yes...they did give a good look. You have to consider where they have come from and who they were playing against. What you are referencing is when they played a game against what is apparently one of the top ten programs in the country. Cov Cath isn't even close to ranked.

 

Just to establish something: Many Highland fans like to play down the 1997 Mud Bowl by saying that Cov Cath's team was "a very talented one" (which is not as true as they say) and "it wasn't as bad a loss as people make it out to be", but when an extraordinarily talented Highlands team handily beats a Cov Cath team with very little talent who is admittedly and obviously in a re-building year, they can't allow that team to try and take anything positive from the game. :irked:

 

Cov Cath's defense played hard the whole game and even harder for the first 16 minutes of the game. Their offense flopped, and the defense was left on the field for more than 80% of the game. What do you expect when that happens against a team like Highlands?

 

Now please, leave the thread to Dixie/Cov Cath.

No one has mentioned that Connely, Schaeffer and Slabaugh hadn't played a game in three weeks prior to the HHS game and it was Robinson first full game of the season against HHS.

 

All four players will be back and in prime condition for this game.

 

BTW the "D" for the Lil Colonels is no HHS "D"!

 

From reading other threads about the Lil Colonels football season there is a common comment about their lack of being able to cover and tackle!

Dixie may have a tough time pulling this one out due to the number of injuries I have heard about. It definately won't help their chances.

I hate to point out facts but who did Cov. Cath play the week before Highlands?

 

I will give you Highlands was preparing a new varsity QB, but Highlands did not have a let down against Dixie. (If I am wrong I know a bird fan will let me know)

 

I think this will be a great football game.
