Guys, the only, ONLY, thing that makes Tebow great in college, is that he's a threat to run over guys in addition to passing. He can't be a pocket passer in the NFL, and I don't believe he'll be a runner. I just don't think that when the defense isn't being kept honest in the same way that he'll run that he'll be as effective a passer.

 

And if you think Tebow can be a successful runner in the NFL, you just wait. This guy will not be able to take hits consistently by guys at that level. So by NFL, do you mean being in 5 Wide Shotgun during that hit? I don't think many teams do that up 30 points. UF's offense doesn't set itself up enough IMO, to be able to rate his pro potential. Yes, he needs alot of work but I don't think that you can definitely say that he cannot play in the NFL at QB based on what UF does. With Meyer's offense though, he also does get alot of work reading the defense presnap, so maybe with time and work he would also be able to read NFL defense adequately.

 

Maybe for me though, its the the fact that have tried every way in the world to discredit Tebow and he has proven me wrong. I'm just going to give him the benefit of the doubt, until proven otherwise. :lol:

I'm saying that if he tries to run the ball, and not slide down, he's going to get knocked into next week by a linebacker that hits just as hard and harder than the UK hit. I know that it's a different situation that he was in during the UK game, but that type of hit is the type of hit he will take if he gives an NFL defender a chance. And if he's sliding down, then he's useless. His game is running people over. He's not fast enough to make people miss, or pick up too terribly many yards before they close on him.

 

Maybe he could develop into a pocket passer, but that's a whole lot of time that a team would have to invest in him to develop that when they could just as easily draft someone who has done that all along. You know that the value they see in Tebow is not as a pocket passer.

I hope Tim makes a great Pro QB, but you got to realize that Ray Lewis and the line backers are in the NFL for a reason.

Tebow runs the spread/read option very well in the system at Florida, but like a lot of others I just don't see how it will translate well to the NFL in a "wildcat" role. Sure it could work as a short yardage package, but you'd have to convert him to FB or TE so that when used he didn't take up a valuable roster spot under NFL QB rules. That's why it would be very hard to hide him as a developing QB while still getting him on the field in certain designed packages more than anything.

 

At the end of the day pure running talents with that natural skill set are what made the "wildcat" attractive. Not a short yardage power guy with a big, but inconsistent arm...

But "his thing" will get him killed in the NFL. He's not a Mike Vick whose game is to make people miss. His game is to run through people, and he won't be running through those guys in the NFL. He's physically dominant in college, an advantage he won't enjoy in the NFL. I'm saying that there will be no point at any time in his career that he can be called upon to look to run first. His body just won't stand up to that sort of punishment because he won't make anyone miss, he will seek out contact. And if you ask him to be just a pocket passer, again, what's the point? There are better ones out there that are worth their time, rather than a complete project. Someone will take a chance on him, but it won't be high, and I wouldn't expect much from it.

 

There is nothing wrong with being the quintessential college player, but ultimately, that is likely how Tebow will be remembered.

So I take it Tebow is a bad passer now? There are plenty of good quarterbacks throughout history that have poor mechanics, he can throw, just because he is extremely good at running the ball in short yardage situations doesn't mean he can't pass. He's not the reason the Wildcat made its way to the NFL, neither is it Rich Rodriguez or Pat White. The Wildcat made it to the NFL because the Dolphins were not particularly good at passing, they had a plethora of quality running backs, as well as having great athletes such as DaVonne Bess and Tedd Ginn Jr. They hired David Lee to implement this offensive scheme in order to capitalize on their strengths and mask their weaknesses.

 

Rich Rodriguez's offense is the Zone Read offense, Florida's offense has several elements of the old school single wing offense that the Wildcat has, but it's not the same. Tebow is a good passer, he's not just a gimmick player. It'd be a stupid decision for him to switch to Tight End or whatever other position Todd McShay or Mel Kiper think he should swithch to IMO. He's tough and willing to work on poor mechanics, you don't win a Heisman Trophy, 2 SEC Championships and 2 National Championships if you're not. Why would Tebow switch to Tight End and not just work on his poor mechanics instead?

So why are there hard-nosed RB's in the NFL? They take that same punishment that Tebow is going to take, only they run the ball alot more than Tebow will in the NFL. It's not like Tebow is some little kid, he is physically strong and I think he has a little more "shake" to his game than he gets credit for.

 

Why is he definitely going to get killed? The guy is built like a Fullback, he might be able to hold up running the ball 7-10 times a game.

He has great pocket presence and his ability to make people miss reminds me of Ben Roethlisberger. It's not like he has been running over high school kids for four years either, he's put some of the best in the country on their backsides when they stepped up and tried to take him on 1-on-1.

Just wanted to add that I think, with time, Tebow could become a very good pro QB. He has good tool for a QB, he just needs some mechanics. A team will be able to use him in special packages for a year or two, while working on his passing. I think it's a win-win for a team to draft him. He is a great leader, a winner, a hard-nosed football player his teammates will respect, and if he cannot be a full-time QB in the future, he would be a very good TE and situational snap taker.

 

Go back and look at Tebow in high school. His team ran a pro style offense and Tebow held all high school passing records in Florida till Brantley beat him out. I know High school and the pros are a huge difference in how the game is played and the talent on the field. I just think Tebow will be a successful QB in the NFL not saying he will be greatest QB ever but will start for some NFL team because have you seen some of the quarterbacks who are now starting.

I have seen many Florida football games since I been there, and I can't remember really see him do that anytime. If he has I would bet you could count it on less than one hand.

 

In the NFL everyone is fast, you have defensive lineman who some will be faster than him. Also in the NFL he will not be running over people, if he tries he most likely will get hurt.
