Even if the flag is thrown, the yardage should be enforced on the succeeding play because it is a NON PLAYER foul. TD should stand. The official and every member of that crew was wrong. I dont think Dixie was robbed of a win, just robbed of a TD and 28-20 lead and momentum.

Saying you are right in on penalty being apllied on the next play, you still can not say Dixie would have won the game.

The penalty would have moved the PAT back, are you saying he was 100% sure going to make it.So we are still playing a if and but's game.

I agree the ref's were not very good, because as Dixie parent told me the last personal foul penalty on the last drive was a very bad call.

So we can go back and forth, and it is not going to change anything.

Bingo. Except one could argue that it kind of did rob them of a win. Final score 39-34, add those 6 points and the out come is just a tad different. And yes i realize that the game most likely would of been played out different had those 6 points held. In a close game those points were huge.

You only know that dixie players were out of the box because of the camera's. In the excitement of the game the players move up, I'm pretty sure that goes for both sides. My point about the Cov Cath coaches was to demonstrate that the 2 refs didn't quite call the sideline violation the same way. Only dixie recieved the warning while Cov Cath recieved none.

I was told that the officials applied the penalty wrong and i believe that's what ended up causing them to be suspended for this week.

Was behind the CovCath bench during the game, and I saw the ref aleast 4 times tell Dixie to get back and that was just in the firat half.

The flag could have been thrown anytime after first warning and the head coach ejected after third time.

If you were behind the bench, are you sure you didnt sneak onto the sideline and cause the penalty?

Apparently, you have a good set of eyes and ears. Did you really hear the conversations of the Dixie staff and sideline official in the commotion of the game? There had to be at least 100 people on the team's sideline. If the TD stands, the team who has the ball last would have scored. Now, that may have very well been CCH, but we will never know.

I thought this thread was for, "questions for officials"?

It has somehow turned into more bickering about a play that nobody can get back. The thread for that game has been shut down.

Any questions for officials?

I guess you want to ignore that I acknowlege that Dixie players move out of the box. What I said was the in the excitement of the moment the players move up. That happens on both sides of the field just about every game. But only Dixie got warnings Friday. Both warning and inforement came on big Dixie plays down their side line because they were excited about the play. I would venture to guess on a few of the big Cov Cath plays Cov Cath players were doing exactly the same thing Dixie players were doing.

I know what the official rule states, but how is the Holding call enforced down field?

It seems like there are many times that WR and lead blockers have their hands on the shoulders of DB's, many times grabbing cloth and no Hold is called. It seems if that same situation occurs with an o-lineman having his hands outside on the shoulder pad they call a hold. I always tought the hands had to be inside the shoulders or a hold would be called.

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe this is why there can't be a special post for asking questions to the officials.

The rule is quoted below. Simply grabbing cloth is not always a hold. Rule 9-2-1-c is a very powerful sentence....effort to restrain an opponent. Getting beat is not getting held.

Rule 9 Section 2

ART. 1 . . . An offensive player (except the runner) shall not:

a. Use a blocking technique which is not permissible by rule. (See 2-3-2, 3)

b. Grasp or encircle any teammate to form interlocked blocking.

c. Use his hands, arms or legs to hook, lock, clamp, grasp, encircle or hold in

an effort to restrain an opponent.

Rule 2 Section 3

ART. 2 . . . In blocking, a player may contact opponents with the arms or hands

provided the technique is legal. The legal techniques are as follows:

a. Closed or cupped hand technique:

1. The elbows may be inside or outside the shoulders.

2. The hands must be closed or cupped with the palms not facing the

opponent.

3. The forearms are extended no more than 45 degrees from the body.

b. Open hand technique. The hand(s) shall be:

1. In advance of the elbow.

2. Inside the frame of the blocker’s body; the frame of the blocker’s body

is the front of the body at or below the shoulders.

3. Inside the frame of the opponent’s body, except when the opponent

turns his back to the blocker during the block or after the blocker is

committed to his charge. The frame of the opponent’s body is at the

shoulders or below other than the back.

4. At or below the shoulders of the blocker and the opponent, except

when the opponent squats, ducks or submarines during the block or

after the blocker is committed to his charge.

5. Open, when the palm(s) are facing the frame of the opponent or when

the forearms are extended beyond the 45 degree angle from the body.

ART. 3 . . . The blocker’s hand(s) may not be locked nor may he swing, throw

or flip the elbow or forearm so that it is moving faster than the blocker’s shoulders

at the time the elbow, forearm or shoulder contacts the opponent. The

blocker may not initiate contact with his arm or hand against an opponent above

the opponent’s shoulder, but he may use his hand or arm to break a fall or

maintain his balance.

Restriction and proximity to the ball carrier are the two important elements of holding.

If a defender is "grabbed", the ball carrier must be in the immidiate vicinity of the defender, and that grabbing must be so restrictive that it prevents the defender from making a tackle for the action to be deemed holding.

Otherwise, it's just grabbing (which is not a foul).

I've called holding 5 times in 15 years.

I would have loved you back in the day when I lead my alma mater in "most holding penalties in a career." :D
