Jumper_Dad Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Twice this year (once JV once Varsity) I have seen offsetting offsides penalties called. Shouldn't it be O-jumped or D-jumped, not both? Is this the call when two officials see it differently?

Is this the call when two officials see it differently? We should either have false start against the offense or encroachment against the defense. If we can't figure out who jumped first, we should call false start on the offense. But I suppose there could be some strange reason why they decided it was more fair to offset the fouls. :idunno: By the way, offside (singular, no "s" on the end) is an NCAA and NFL foul against the defense. It's not in the highschool rulebook. If you hear anybody use the term at a highschool game, please correct them.
billwilliams70 Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Couple of questions: 1. Was at the Fort Campbell VS Marshall County JV game this past Monday, they ran 8 minute quarters and I was told that it's the home team's choice. How come there is an option? 2. How are the officials for each game decided? The officiating for this game (as well as FC's previous HOME JV game against Hopkinsville) was really poor, and I got to wondering about how the officials were chosen. Here's a sample of one bad call in the FC vs MC game this past Monday. Bad snap by our center to our QB, the QB ran the ball down and fell on it. Roughly two seconds later, as the QB was getting up, an MC player jumped on him. The MC coach was yelling, from the sideline, at his player, "You can't jump on him like that when he's down!!!!" However, the ref, standing right there, didn't call the penalty. There was also a holding penalty called on FC well after the play had been blown dead, our runner was in the process of giving the ball over to the ref (after the first down) when another ref threw the flag in. It was really poor officiating. On a side note, may I suggest that there be a sub-forum in the football forum titled "Ask The Officials" added so posters can post seperate threads as I'm pretty sure it's hard for the officials on the board to follow along in this current thread. Later.

Later. 1. Rule 3-1-3...a period or periods may be shortened...by agreement of the opposing coaches and the referee. (Refs ain't gonna argue with a quick clock in a JV game, sorry.) 2. JV games are a great opportunity for young players, young coaches and young refs to get game experience. Mistakes happen with all involved. Please don't disparage players, coaches or refs at JV games. 3. Please post any question for the refs at any time. THERE ARE MANY OF US LURKING ABOUT AT ALL TIMES! WE ARE FALLING OVER OURSELVES FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO LOOK UP THE ANSWER AND POST IT FOR YOU ON BGP. IF YOU POST IT, WE WILL ANSWER!

Ram Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Has anyone (a mod in particular) given this request any thought? Just wondering. Later. It, as well as many other options, have been discussed. I will revive the conversation with the powers that be.

goldsmith Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 In the Cov Cath Dixie game, a ref thru a flag because he ran into a camera man on Dixie's sideline. Dixie scored on the play - live ball TD. The ref called the play back because the Dixie sideline had already had an issue earlier in the game. Found out the ref was suspended - should have assessed the penalty on the PAT and the TD should have counted which would have resulted in a win for Dixie. The call effected the outcome of the game and determined where and who Dixie and Cov Cath played in the playoffs. Instead of the home game that Cov Cath now gets to look forward to, Dixie has a 3 hour ride to Ashland. DIXIE SHOULD HAVE HAD THE HOME GAME AND THE EASIER OPPONENT! Why is their no ability to replay a quarter in football, or do an over time like replay, like you can replay an inning for baseball if the ref makes a call that effects the game outcome?

I wish there was more accountability for the officials when they do make game deciding mistakes. When a mistake is made, the two teams don't get satisfaction from any correctable error. Raceland had a game decided by a blocked extra point this year, the problem was the snapper was obliterated to make the opening for the blocker to run threw. The block was allowed, the game was lost by Raceland, and the officials got some kind of reprimand after the game. But, it still shows up as a loss for Raceland. When a game is decided by a blown call by the officials, there should be some kind of way to fix the problem. Your idea may be the correct one, but something should be done to fix these situations.

No offense.....but..... Principal: "Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
