Pikeville can't get back on the winning track against Belfry. I think that Coach Howard will get them back on track.

Pikeville used to be a team that could have been competitive in any class I remember back through the 80's and early 90's seemed like they were playing in the title game every year. What's happened?

With the economy the way it has been over the past several years there has been a down turn in the number of students that participate in football and in addition, the other schools on that side of the county are getting there "share" of kids who would have gone to Pikeville. It makes the all of the county schools a little stronger.

Yeah Strongside they used to get all the quality players, but even then Belfry was a quality program weren't they?

True, it used to be that when Belfry/Pikeville (the real Pike Co. Bowl) met you never knew who would win. At one time the longest any win streak between the two was 3 games. In '88 (or '89) when Pikeville came into Belfry riding a 33 game win streak and faced a mediocre Belfry team, the Pirates came away convincingly the winners. Pikeville then went on to be state champs for the 3rd year in a row. You never know when a team can have an off night, that is why we strap'em up and play the game. I think Coach Ben Howard is going to turn Pikeville back into a team to be reckoned with in 1A. :thumb:

Pikeville has been great sence the state title years in the late '80's, look at the records most team would give a arm or a leg to have this kind of success.

Belfry has just been a better program in the last few years, but that can change in a matter of a year, that is why they play the game.
