Not tying to make any kind of a statement on it, was just some thoughts and ones I thought were funny. Nothing serious intended or not wanting to get into a whole P&R thing or I woul have put it there. I apologize if anyone takes it as trying to start something. I certainly am not.

This is America so I guess I SHOULD hope Chicago will get the Olympics. I have to say though with the Obama's and Oprah Winfrey over there lobbying for it I hope we don't get them! I will predict though with Europes affection for Mr. Obama that Chicago will get the games.

Could anyone imagine how bad the already high and mighty "I am God" trip that Oprah Winfrey is on would magnify? Oprah would be claiming she found/solved world peace. :eek::lol:

 

I know one thing, if the USA/Chicago doesn't get them the IOC had better get ready to be labled racist :sssh:. With the Obama's and the might Oprah Winfrey there you know that would happen if awarded to another country. JMO

 

On the lighter side I can see the format now if in Chicago........The Ousted Chicago/Illinois politicians would deliver the opening address. Rev. Wright would deliver the opening prayer...."not God Bless America, but God.....(yeah, that one:rolleyes:). Bil Ayers lighting the Olympic flame along with "ACORN" would be over judging the events. Oh my, what a picture of Chicago and America. :lol:

I removed part of that post, (the IOC pragraph). I wasn't trying to make any kind of statement or anything or to offend anyone. I reconsidered and saw where some may be. The rest goes on my extreme dislike for Oprah along with the Dennis Miller comedy commentary on it.

 

I apologize if anyone was offended, it certainly was not meant to be that way.

I think Obama has a lot more important things to worry about than the Olympics, and I do not think the rest of the world is too impressed with the Obama and think the opposite.

You must not read all the posts and just look for the ones to quickly defend Obama.

I showed him that the President disagreed with him and either a) felt it was important enough; b) didn't have more important things.

 

So what would the problem be exactly with my post? If you have a problem with my post, you need to take it up with Xtiger who said the President has more important things than going to lobby for the Olympics.

Didn't Chicago hold the World Cup?

It was all over the US in 1994 and the final was in Pasadena at the Rose Bowl . The venues were Chicago , Dallas, Boston , Washington DC. , Orlando , East Rutherford New Jersey, San Francisco and Detroit .

Some things that favor Chicago is that 16 of the 31 potential venues are already in place. And they already have decent public transportation in place. People can also spill over north to Kenosha and Milwaukee for hotel rooms and the like.

 

However, I think the president making a last ditch lobbying effort to try and get the games tells me the Chicago bid may be in trouble. If you are the favorite, why make the trip?

I asked a simple question.

 

You gave an either or implying that the POTUS has to make an either/or decision. Is healthcare/jobs/etc more/less important than lobbying for the Olympics.

 

IMO that's either an ill-conceived thought on your part or its filled with partisanship.

 

I've heard Michael Steele and other party hacks criticize the POTUS for his trip. His comments and your "either/or" completely ignore that the POTUS can multi-task. What exactly could he NOT do while on this trip? Do you , XTiger, and Steele picture him wandering the halls of Congress knocking on doors trying to sell his plan? Do you realize the plane he flies on has communications equipment?

 

So I ask again: What's the harm in him going on this trip? How do we suffer as a country?

 

This whining about him being in Copenhagen is the same crap we listened to when President Bush was at his ranch in Crawfordsville. You would have thought that he was out of touch with his staff and completely ignoring the needs of the country. Crapola. The POTUS, no matter where he is, is always on duty and working on the country's needs.

My understanding is that the Presidents of all "final four" countries are in attendance.

 

Word on the street is that it's between Rio and Chicago. Rio's presentation included a world map highlighting the locations of all previously Games. None were held on the South American continent. Zero.

I heard someone say that the TV rights would bring in $250M more than in Chicago than Rio.

 

That has to be a factor to those making the decision.

In reference to LBBC posting the article for XTiger and Clyde asking what the problem was: I see no problem with what Obama was trying to do, I'm glad he did do it but to point out LBBC for simply posting an article was either A) Not understanding the flow of the discussion or B) Jumping the gun.

As Keith Olbermann correctly pointed out the other night, President Bush attended the Summer Olympics in Beijing for a few days last summer. I honestly don't remember any widespread criticism of him for leaving the problems of the country behind to watch the Olympics halfway around the world.

If I was going, I would vote Rio, but since I am not it doesn't matter.
