I'll not claim to call this my opinion because I heard a guy on the radio talking about it, but Brazil is hosting the 2014 Soccer World Cup. He mentioned that the IOC likes to announce the host six years in advance and then have that be the big deal in that country for the duration. With the World Cup going to Brazil, the Olympics wouldn't be a "big deal" until 2015 when the World Cup ends. And before anyone asks, yes the World Cup is a bigger deal than the Olympics - especially in Brazil.
September 30, 200916 yr St. Louis (1904), Los Angeles (1932 & 1984), and Atlanta (1996) are the only American cities to have hosted the Summer Olympics. Lake Placid (1932 & 1980), Squaw Valley, CA (1960), and Salt Lake City (2002) have all hosted the Winter Olympics. Has anyone on BGP ever been to the Olympics?

I hope I'm wrong, but we also just had the Ryder Cup.

WEG, if successful in the states could return as a frequent event. This is the first time it's been held outside Europe. But the ticket sales so far are going better than expected, especially in this economy. Those of us in the Travel & Tourism industry are cautiously optimistic at this point. Alot is riding on the success of this event next year.

People who go to this event think the Derby is crass.

I think Obama has a lot more important things to worry about than the Olympics, and I do not think the rest of the world is too impressed with the Obama and think the opposite.
