I have no dogs in this fight----I would think that both teams would want to play to the point where the coaches would get a date and get er done.....not worry about getting a W through a forfeit.

Why wouldnt it make good sense to play Garrard on Tuesday of the last week and then play Pulaski on the Saturday! Pulaski would have their full week to prepare for Lincoln. The Lincoln / Garrard game is a non district game. So Garrard wouldnt have to worry about preparing for the Friday game and Lincoln would at least get their game in!

 

Just a thought.

I like how it is turned out to be pulaski that is the bad apple in this. Pulaski offered for Lincoln to come to their place Friday. Lincoln said no. If you would like to place blame look at the people in Lincoln that cancelled a DISTRICT football game-not Pulaski who wanted to play!:irked:

If I was Pulaski County, I wouldn't play the game during my previously scheduled OPEN week. But, you are out of line to make the statement to "look at the peoople in Lincoln County".

 

They are dealing with a very serious, widespread illness that they are trying to control by limiting the contact of all people, not just students. The football team was not even allowed to practice after Monday. That is a pretty bad and almost unprecedented situation.

 

How about a little understanding and sympathy? We're talking about a high school football game comapred to the health of saftey of the public.

Where the game is played is not the point, Lincoln County students are prohibited from activities until next Monday.

 

It's no ones fault, just a very odd situation. Of course neither team wants to cancel the game, it doesn't really benifit anyone. But, they may be the best option. Hopefully not, I can assure you LC people are blaming PC though.:thumb:

I don't know the details of the proposal, just that I do know that Pulaski said no to a make up date. Our sports director has been in contact with both schools. I hope it is not a done deal either, but I do find it tough to argue with PC's reasoning.

Because Garrard plays Casey County the Friday night before. That would mean 3 days of preparation for Lincoln County during the final week. It wouldn't make good sense for Garrard County to do that for one gigantic reason: (1) Garrard County didn't cancel any games.

Prep Football: Lincoln wants to play

STANFORD — The postponement of tonight’s Lincoln County-Pulaski County football game could mean a forfeit for the Patriots if a resolution is not reached.

 

All extracurricular activities were called off after school was closed for the rest of the week in Lincoln County on Tuesday when flu-like symptoms caused mass absences in the district.

 

But Lincoln coach Mike Settles wants to get the game played, and said Thursday night that he offered a scenario to Pulaski in which Lincoln would play three games in eight days just to get the Pulaski game in.

 

Lincoln plays South Laurel and Pulaski plays Mercer County on Oct. 23. Pulaski then has an open date Oct. 30. Settles proposed moving the Pulaski game to Oct. 28, then playing the Patriots season finale against Garrard County on Oct. 31, which he said Garrard had agreed to.

 

“I played high school football in Illinois, and for many years the first round of the playoffs was on a Wednesday, and the second round was the following Saturday,” he said. “That was a tradition for over 20 years.”

 

However, Settles said Pulaski coach John Hines would not agree to that scenario.

 

Pulaski athletics director Randy Elmore said he feels for Lincoln, but he also doesn’t want his team to have to play two games in a week.

 

“You know how it is with football. You play Friday, and you rest Saturday and Sunday, and usually take Monday off,” Elmore said Thursday night. “We just felt like that wasn’t a good scenario for the safety of our kids. We didn’t want to put anyone in danger of getting hurt or re-hurt. A lot of our kids go both ways, and it’s just kind of a tough scenario.

 

“I sympathize with them. It’s out of (the team’s) hands.”

 

What makes the situation difficult is the fact the game is a district game, and had playoff implications.

 

Friday’s game was to be Pulaski’s Class AAAAA, District 7 opener. South Laurel and Southwestern are each 1-0, and Lincoln is tied for fourth in the district with Mercer County at 0-1. A forfeit would hamper the Patriots’ chances of a playoff berth.

 

“This game could decide first second, third and fourth in our district,” Settles said.

 

Settles said he felt Lincoln has “bent over backwards to help the situation. But unfortunately, the don’t want to go with what we’ve come up with.”

 

Lincoln contacted the Kentucky High School Athletic Association on Thursday to help with the situation, but never heard back from assistant commissioner Julian Tackett. Settles planned to contact the KHSAA and Pulaski again this morning.

 

“If I was ever in their situation, I would find a way to make it work,” Settles said. “You talk about one game in a season, that’s 10 percent of a season, the kids have worked too hard to not get to play that game.”

 

Elmore said Thursday if a date can’t be agreed upon, “I guess we just count it as a forfeit (against Lincoln).”

 

Settles is worried his team could be forced to forfeit.

 

“I don’t feel this situation, with the extenuating circumstances, deserves a forfeit. But we may be forced into it based on what the KHSAA does,” the Lincoln coach said. “The KHSAA, I hope, would find a way to make this game happen.

 

“We thought we had the best solution possible. There was no way we could have moved it anywhere else.”

I may be old school but how many teams have 3 off days? Surely PC doesn't take Monday's off, if true then it would explain some things IMO.

Sounds like Hines is the problem with the game. If he feels it is one less game his kids will play becaues of the forfiet, then here is his opportunity to play. Lincoln wants to play, but Hines doesnt. Go figure. I am sure it is not for sake of Lincolns kids as to why he wont play. He probably just just wants an easy win in district play. What a shame.

IMO the khsaa needs to step in

Thats why either ask Garrard Co. to play on Wednesday, since its not even a district game and then play Pulaski Co. on Saturday. If all parties don't agree to this, then scratch the Garrard game and play Pulaski Co.on the 30th. Would seem only fair for Lincoln and the other teams in the district! Really wish the parties involved would look into doing this!
