Trinity 9 Bowling Green 0

Purples defense played their hearts off with several stands in Purple territory. Three FGs by Nick Robertson spelled the difference in this one.

Hats off to the Shamrocks for a tough, hard fought win!

Purples will host Grayson Co next week in their district opener, followed by their open date for fall break.

:D

Over the past few seasons, it seems like the Bowling Green offense really struggles to put points on the board against better teams. Certainly Trinity is very good. Good effort by the Purples, though.:thumb:

I applaud the efforts of the Bishop kid as well...he didn't score, but he was huge in allowing Trinity to wear out the defensive players for the Purples. But it was to the Purples' big time credit that they didn't allow one single TD on the night!

Western Kentucky 5A is very strong this season with Bowling Green, Owensboro, Christian County and John Hardin. Those are going to be some playoff battles in November.

BGHS OLB Alfred Gilbert came up huge against Trinity with two or three QB sacks and at least one fumble caused!

:D

ROCKS needed a win and they responded. Much work to do on offense. Defense played big.

Now off to the Freshman game against Cincinnati Elder at 11:00 in the morning. Should be a good one.

Hats off to the Purples for an outstanding defensive effort and execution. Nice crowd on a night when it rained up until kickoff. This is an enjoyable, competitive series. Add a more determined passing attack and they will be a force to be reckoned with.

Man, it'll be absolute carnage out west in the 5A Region One title chase!! And don't forget...we've already played Christian Co and Owensboro. We will probably have to play both, and they're both old WKC rivals. It takes physical and mental punishment just to win out west! I just hope that the winner will have enough gas left to be able to take on John Hardin and whoever comes out of the east (most likely Highlands, from what I saw on the DVR tonight and knowing that the team Highlands beat 12-7 blew out Trinity by 30 the week before!!). Also, Highlands has never been beaten in a championship game by a team that didn't have a perfect record (Henderson City, 1959; Caldwell Co, 1963; Hopkinsville, 1966; BGHS, 1995; and Boyle Co, 2003). But I'm getting way ahead of myself...more fish to fry before then! But thanx for your observation, you're absolutely right!:thumb::D

We do have a better passing attack than what we showed tonight. Trinity's DBs did a super job of covering our receivers all night. I'm not going to single out anybody, but according to our announcers on the radio, two sure TD passes were simply dropped. I'm sure that will be addressed in practice this week! But you're right...it has been a very competitive series thus far. The guys have sure acquitted themselves quite well in this series, as well as the two classic games we had with St Xavier. They can't help but make the Purples a better team and one better prepared for the 5A playoffs!:thumb::D

Hats off to the Rocks for winning tonight!

Purples, I hate to do it, but I've got to pull for the Cougars next week. :D After that, have at it! :D

That was about what I expected. Bowling Green's defense is as strong as ever, and they stepped it up as they always do. But their offense has struggled with Trinity, and whereas Lavance was enough against Owensboro, they needed help for him in this one.

Trinity looks back on track. I think they'll probably still lose to St. X, but it seems like we can maybe put that back into the toss up category. That should be the only game they lose until the state finals.

As for Bowling Green, I don't think they'll lose any games until the state finals. There's not a team on their regular season schedule they shouldn't beat, and they've already proven they're better than the other top teams in their region. They've got some work to do offensively, but they won't face this type of defense often.

Of note from this result, it's the third time out of the four games between these two teams that Bowling Green was shut out. They've given up less and less points in those games though (losing 26-0 in 1974, 17-0 in 2008, and now 9-0). The game in 2007 is the lone game that Bowling Green has scored, getting 28 points.

Trinity is still the only team to shut out Bowling Green in the last 7 years, doing so twice now. Hopkinsville was the last team besides Trinity to shut out the Purples (9-0 in the 2002 playoffs).

I was hoping the Purples would put this one off. It kind of confirms that BG is very one dementional on offense. Lavance ripped Owensboro the week before, but Trinity bottled the stud senior running back up. BG will take out this loss on Grayson County next week.

As far as passing goes I don't know what game the radio guys were watching. B.G. didn't get close to the end zone with a run or pass all night. The only time they crossed the 50 in the second half was on the last play when time ran out.

Nice job Rocks! Beatty keeps tweaking the offense. We'll be fine in the end.
